Dear my Tumblr's friends.

Sorry for not posting or contacting you for so long.

From May to June, Hug wasn't in the best of health, but on the days when she was feeling well, she was in a good mood and could enjoy long walks. However, now that July has come and the hot weather has continued day after day, she has lost her energy again. Then in August, she developed an acute inflammation accompanied by a high fever, and was temporarily in critical condition.

Fortunately, she recovered, but after extensive medical examination, it was discovered that Hug had a malignant disease. (This was very brutal results, as a regular health check-up in early spring had shown no problems…) And for several reasons, it seems unlikely that she will ever be cured completely, so she will have to live with this nasty disease.

Currently, her condition is very calm. And today, she has safely reached her 14th birthday, which brings me great emotion. Seeing her smile so broadly makes me really really happy and I can't help but express my heartfelt gratitude.

This is a phrase I always hold dear, and DOGS live in the “NOW” without worrying about the future. While respecting such dog's way and dignity, I continue to stay close Hug's life.

大変ご無沙汰しております。

春先以降もハグの体調があまり芳しくなく、長らくTumblr活動をお休みしてしまいました。８月には高熱を伴う急性の炎症を起こし、一時は危ない状態にまで陥ったハグですが、回復したのちに不調の原因を探るため色々な検査をしたところ悪性の疾患に罹っていることが判明しました。春に受けた定期健康診断では特に問題がなかったので、それはとても残酷な結果であり、またいくつかの理由から完治のためのハードルが高く、今後はその厄介で忌まわしい病と折り合いをつけながら暮らしてゆくことになります。

幸い、現在は落ち着いた状態を保てており、本日無事に14歳の誕生日を迎えられたことを心からうれしく感じています。どんなときも絶やすことなく僕に向けてくれる彼女の笑顔は本当に宝物でしかありません。

この先は、いつまた身体の変化が悪い方に転んでしまうのか明確には予想がつかないものの、14歳の一年はきっと大きな試練が待ち受ける年になるでしょう。しかし元々イヌの〈犬生〉が短いことは自明であって、だからこそ僕が常々大切にしてきたのは“どのくらい生きるか”ではなく“どのように生きるか”、すなわち犬生の「長さ」ではなく「深さ」なので、今後もその考えを更に強く胸に抱きながら、ハグとともに僕らの愛するグリーン・ロードを一歩一歩踏みしめつつ、「いま」「この瞬間」を楽しみ、ひたすら歩いてゆくだけです。

里の櫻 -Cherry blossoms in the village-

Hug had been feeling unwell since mid-March, and her poor condition lasted for about 4 weeks. However, this year, the full-fledged cherry blossoms bloomed quite late, so I was able to enjoy cherry blossom viewing with Hug, who has recovered.

Everything is not just a matter of course. I am deeply grateful for our beautiful and lovable everyday life :-))

３月中旬から４週間ほど、ハグが体調を崩した状態が続いていました。シニア齢になってからなにかしらの病気に罹ると治りが遅くなる傾向にはあったものの、ここまで長引くのは初めてのことで、イヌ飼い達の間では、しばしば愛犬の健康について「13歳の壁」なんていう話題が出るんですけど、ハグもいままさにその年齢であり色々と考えさせられてしまいます。

でも無事に回復してくれ、今年は桜の開花がかなり遅かったおかげで、元気を取り戻したハグと例年通りにお花見散歩ができたことがしみじみとうれしく感じられたのでした🌸😚🐶🌸

WOOFY WALK in TOKYO #２

I have a favorite store that I always stop by when I go to Kichijoji. The name of the store is “WATER DOG GARDEN”, the owner is very kind to dogs and has a wide range of goods to help owners enjoy life with their dogs❤️

Anyway, everything is COOL!!!!

I did a lot of shopping and left the store with shopping bags in both hands✨🛍️😂🛍️✨

吉祥寺に行くと必ず立ち寄るお気に入りのお店があります。それはイヌとの暮らしを楽しむためのこだわりの雑貨がぎっしり取り揃えられた「ウォーター・ドッグ・ガーデン」です❤️

WOOFY WALK in TOKYO #１

My dogs and me visited Tokyo after two years’ absence🚗☺️🐶🐶

It was Nico's first time walking on a Tokyo-safari, so we decided to take a walk around the Kichijoji area, which is not a lively tourist destination. Hug has been to this town several times so she knows the ways around very well, and guided Nico nicely❤️

The Ghibli Museum is located in the forest of Inokashira Park. My favorite character“Robot Soldier” is standing on that rooftop! …Yaaaaay!!

ハグとニコを連れて2年ぶりにおのぼりさんをしてきました。

ニコにとっては初めて訪れる東京、場所はゆったり散策ができる吉祥寺エリアに。ハグはもう何度か連れて行っているので勝手知ったると言った街並みゆえ、しっかりとニコを引率してくれました😊🐶🐶

僕的には、井の頭公園内にあるジブリ美術館屋上のロボット兵と久しぶりに再会できたのがうれしかったです（イヌ連れでは施設に入れないので外側から見ただけ。。しかも肉眼だと遠くて小っちゃ！！なのですが。。笑）😘❤️🤖

My dog, "NICO" celebrated 1th birthday :-)

I always wish her health and happiness.

And dear Tumblr's friends,

Nico is always grateful for your kind messages and daily support🐶❤️

愛犬・ニコが１歳の誕生日を迎えました。

生後約４ヶ月齢でわが家にやってきた小さな怪獣・ニコラ🦖🤣ことニコは、よく遊び、よく食べ、よく眠って、すくすくといい子に育ってくれました。

それもひとえに、ハグパイセンの根気強い教育のたまものに違いありません。『賢い老犬は、若い犬をかわいがりながら、「こうしちゃいけないよ」「こうしなさい」ということを教えていくのです。しつけなどで人間が苦労することはないのです。老犬にまかせておけば、難なくやってくれます。』まさにそんなムツゴロウさんの言葉通りに、彼女はイヌの流儀で家庭犬のルールやマナーをニコにしっかりと学ばせました。

いつもありがとう、ハグ❤️

話は逸れますが、ニコをみていると僕が幼少期に実家で飼っていたちいさめサイズの雑種犬「ハック」を思い出します。彼は６歳で亡くなるまで、全身全霊でイヌという生き物の素晴らしさを僕に教えてくれた紛れもない親友だったのでした☺️❤️🐶

My dog,“HUG” celebrated 13th birthday.

In the case of a medium-sized dog, in terms of human age, that's about 80 years old. And if a dog's life is compared to the four seasons, it is almost time to enter the winter period.

However, there is no need to think of it pessimistically. Because, winter is the most comfortable season for Hug, who is resistant to cold👍🏻🐶💙

Also, with Nico coming to our pack, Hug seems to have found new purpose in her job as an “educator'', and was able to survive the difficult summer in a healthy manner. Ahhh, Hug! You are truly amazing💕 (And THANKS, Nico!!💕)

愛犬・ハグが13歳の誕生日を迎えました。

中型犬の場合、ニンゲンの年齢に換算すると80歳代に突入、犬生を四季に例えるならばそろそろ冬の時代に差しかかろうとする時分になりました。

しかしそれはまったく悲観するようなことではありません。なぜならハグは寒さに強くて（むしろ得意なくらいかもw）、巡る季節のなかで冬こそが実は最も快適にいきいきとすごすことができるからです👍🏻🐶💙

またニコが我が家にやってきたことで、いつもなら食欲が減退し、ぐったりしてしまう苦手な夏も、今年のハグは「教育係」としての仕事に新たな生き甲斐を見い出したためか、まだまだ老け込んではいられない！とばかりに実に健康的にやりすごしてくれ、そのまま身体も心もずっと良いコンディションを保っています。

ニコはまだまだ手がかかる年頃。これからも頼りにしてますよっ、ハグパイセンっっ！😉🐶🐾🐾

●十一月: 霜月ともいう。立冬（十一月八日頃）を迎えるがまだ寒くはなく、空も野山も澄みとおる頃である。暖かな日和が続くかと思えば、ときに時雨たり霜の降る日も増えてくる。

Early in the morning before I went to pick up Nico, who had been hospitalized overnight at the animal hospital for spay surgery, Hug and me took a walk along the beach, just the two of us.

Hug seemed to forget about her job as Nico's educator for a while and frolicked “an only child” time for the first time in 4 months☺️🐶💙

避妊手術のため、動物病院へ１泊入院したニコを迎えにいく前に、ハグとふたりきりで早朝の海辺を散歩しに行きました。

Before I knew it, it's the last day of September. I've been so busy this month that I haven't been able to check my Tumblr's dashboard much… I'm sorry for not being able to visit your blog🙏🏻💦

I would like to give you a little update on the current status of our pack. Today, Nico was successfully spay surgery and discharged from animal hospital after an overnight stay. She's still in low spirits, but she'll be back to her active self soon!✨🐶✨

You’re home, Nico💕 Please rest calmly, don't get too excited until the stitches are removed!!

依然として慌ただしい日々が続き、またまたTumblrを長らく放置しているうちに今月も終わろうとしております😅 9月末だと言うのにまだ日中の気温が33℃もあったりしてさすがに今年の夏はしつこすぎる💢

でも週明けからはようやくだいぶ秋めいてくるのだそうで（リアリィ〜？笑）気がつけば野辺には彼岸花やコスモスなども咲き始めています♫

そんななか、生後７か月半になったニコは昨日無事に避妊手術を終え本日退院してきました。さすがに少しだけしょんぼりぎみですが、すぐ元気になってくれるでしょう✨🐶✨てか、１週間後の抜糸までどうか暴れずにすごして欲しいものです（切実w）🦖😂

I am so fed up with this summer heat☀️🥵🔥But according to the long-term weather forecast, the extremely hot days will still continue for a while… ahhh, What the heck!!!

Nico is the only one in our pack who is always in good spirits✨🐶✨Awww… it's wonderful to be young!!🐾🐾

バタバタと忙しなくすごしているうちに気付けば8月がもうすぐ終わってしまう。。。Tumblrもゆっくり見ている時間がなくすっかり放置状態、皆さまの所への訪問も行き届かずスミマセン😓🙏🏻

それにしても、いつまで暑いんでしょうかねー(´༎ຶོρ༎ຶོ`) 9月になっても厳しい残暑が続くとの予報に心が折れそうです💧そんななかでもニコだけはいつも元気いっぱい、散歩道や公園の広場をぴょんぴょんと脱兎のごとく駆け回っています✨🐶✨健康優良で実に素晴らしいことですが、涼しい時期ならいざ知らず、この夏場にそんな仔犬のメガハイテンションさと延々付き合うのは正直大変だったりします😅しかしながら、肉体的にも精神的にもタフでなければイヌの飼い主なんか務まりませんから、僕も「ヒャッホーー💕」なんつって自分を鼓舞しながら、年甲斐もなく（笑）ニコと一緒にはしゃいでいるのでした🤣🤣🤣その前に早朝4:00から6:00くらいまでハグの散歩に行っているのは言うまでもありませんwドMな自分バンザイww

ともあれハグと僕との合言葉はただひとつ「はよ寒くなれー！」です。。笑

“飼い主のなかには、ペットロスから立ち直れないという心の弱い人もいます。私はそういう方には「次を飼ってくださいね」と言っています。

命は、文化は、私たちの生き方は、次の時代に伝わらなければなりません。伝わっていくからこそ、人間の生活は、人間の文化は光り輝いていきます。

一匹目の犬を飼います。やがて亡くなります。二匹目を飼います。すると、一匹目の犬が与えてくれたものが、二匹目の生活の中にどんどん表われてくるのです。そして、次の犬との生活を、より豊かにしていくのです。それが生きることなのです。

ですから、「もう二度と犬を飼いたくない」などとは言わずに、ぜひとも次を飼ってください。可能なら、前の犬が衰えをはじめた頃に新しい子犬を連れてくるのがいいと思います。歳をとった犬が若い犬のしつけをしてくれるからです。これは人間がおこなうしつけよりも、ずっといいのです。私は、しつけに困っている人がいると「お宅には歳をとった犬がいないでしょう。大人の犬がいないでしょう」と、よく申しあげます。賢い老犬は、若い犬をかわいがりながら、「こうしちゃいけないよ」「こうしなさい」ということを教えていくのです。トイレのしつけなど、人間が苦労することはないのです。老犬にまかせておけば、難なくやってくれます。ほかの犬と仲よくする方法も、賢い犬がいればすぐに若い犬は覚えてしまいます。

もうひとつ、若い犬は老いた犬を長生きさせてくれるのです。若い子がくると老犬の心が波立ちます。それまで感じなかったやきもちを焼いてみたり、おねだりをしたりと、若返るのです。そういうときは心拍数や血圧も正常値に戻りつつあったりします。これはすばらしいことだと思います。

私は老いたときに咲く花のひとつを与えてやりたいのです。人も70歳、80歳になると自分の老いを感じるようになります。そんなときに孫が来てくれるとうれしいものです。心に花が咲きます。そうすると、健康状態もよくなります。老いた犬にも、そういう経験をさせてあげたいのです。それをまた、次に来た犬が継承して、死を自然のものとして受けとめられるようになるのです。”

以前に読んだムツゴロウさんこと故・畑正憲さんの著書にあったこんな一説がずっと記憶に残っていて、ハグが老犬になったら新しいイヌを迎えようと心に決めていました。

それともうひとつ、母性本能がとても強いハグに子供を産ませてあげることは出来なかったけれど、いつか仔犬を育てる経験だけでもさせてあげたいなぁとつねづね思っていたのです。

本当はハグが10歳前後の頃にそんな生活を実現するつもりでしたが、２年に渡るハグの左右両方の後脚前十字靭帯断裂の手術／治療やコロナ禍などがちょうどその時期に重なってしまい、想定よりも数年遅れてようやく仔犬のニコを我が家に迎えることが叶いました。

そしてムツゴロウさんの言葉どおり、ハグは新生活のなかにあらたな生きがいや新鮮な刺激を見い出し、ニコはハグから多くを学び、心身ともに健やかに成長しています。幼くて活発すぎるニコと老いて激しい動きがままならないハグとは、身体を使って遊ぶことこそなかなか難しいものの、とても良い関係を築けているように見えます😊🐶🐶❤️

縁あって、ジャックラッセルテリアの仔犬を新しく家族に迎えました。現在生後5ヶ月の女の子で名前はニコラと言いますが「ニコ」と呼んでもらえたらうれしいです♫ 実は1ヶ月ほど前からニコは我が家におりまして、ワクチンプログラムが終わり、先日ようやく散歩デビューを果たしたところ。現在社会化トレーニングをさせながらイヌの義務教育をほどこしている最中です。チョロチョロと活発に暴れ回る小さな怪獣に少々（いやかなり？😅）辟易しつつ、ハグもニコの教育係をしっかりと頑張ってくれています🐶❤️🐶

また、やはり多頭飼いを検討していた近所のイヌともさんが、ウチと同じタイミングでニコと同じ犬舎からきょうだいの仔犬を迎えたので、２頭はこれからも仲良く戯れながらすくすく成長していってくれることと思います。数ヶ月後、涼しくなる頃にはハグとニコが一緒にグリーン・ロードを軽快に歩けるようになってるんじゃないかなーと期待しつつ（いまはまだニコがワチャワチャしすぎているため、散歩はしばらく別々デスw）、僕にとっては実に12年ぶりの仔犬育て（遠い目…笑）、色々と大変ですけども（いやマジでw）楽しみながらがんばりまーす！

海はいつも美しくおおらかに広がり、私たちのこころに安らぎを与えてくれる存在です。

しかし、時として全く別の顔を見せることがあります。それを強く思い知らされたのが12年前の「3.11」、まさにあのときでした。

東日本大震災では、死因の９割が津波に巻き込まれたことによる溺死だったと言います。僕が小さい頃からよく遊んでいる地元・茨城の海でも、押し寄せた津波が堤防を乗り越え、たくさんの漁船や車を押し流しながら市街地を浸水させました。この投稿に掲載しているおだやかな砂浜も、当時は烈しく荒れ狂い、ドス黒く濁った波が引いた後には、浜一面に大量の災害ゴミが積み上げられて、それはほんとうに胸が締め付けられる光景でした。

普段なら起こるとは思いもしない事態が、想像を遥かに超えて起こることがある。そのときに私たちはどのように行動したらよいのか。

あのあまりにも巨きく悲惨な災害から得た教訓を学びとして、そう遠くない将来にきわめて高い確率で起こることが懸念される新たな巨大地震の際には、正しく迅速な避難が行われ、ひとつでも多くのいのちが失われずにすむことを、あらためて願わずにおれません。

立春をすぎて、あたたかい日も増えてきましたが、冬の寒さはもうしばらく続きそうな気配。

寒冷地のイヌの血が混じっているとしか思えないハグ（いやマジでw 暖房つけると暑がるんですぅぅww）は寒い季節が大好きで、ここしばらく何歳も若返ったかのような絶好調期が続いています🐶❄️♫

こんなにハグの調子が良いのなら、ずうっと冬のままでもいいんだけどなぁなんて思いながらも、やっぱり本音では春が待ち遠しくてたまりません😅

また、今年に入ってから身辺がバタバタと慌ただしくなり、Tumblr活動の時間がほぼほぼ作れておらず、こちらも落ち着くまでにもうちょっとかかりそうです。

“クリスマスの奇跡”なんて言葉がありますが、ハグと僕にも驚くような出来事が起こりました！

ハグを連れてイヌともさんへのクリスマスプレゼントを買いにペット用品店へ行った際、ハグとよく似たイヌさんとばったり出会い、その飼い主さんと「なんかお互いにすごく似てますよね😄えっ、そちらも12歳なんですか？うわー奇遇ー🎶」なんて会話からよくよく話をしてみると。。。その子も個人宅からの譲渡犬で、なんとなんと譲渡主さんが（引き取った日も！）ウチとまったく一緒！！つまりハグとその子は当時７つ子だったパピーたちのうちの２頭で、同腹仔の姉妹だった事が分かってびっくりでした！！✨🐶🐶✨

こんな偶然の再会が実際にあるんですねえ😭感動と喜びのあまり涙でちゃいましたぁぁ😭😭😭

どうか２匹とも（もちろん他のきょうだいたちも）まだまだ元気に暮らしていって欲しいです🙏🏻
