Cobra Kai Part 2 - Blog Posts

the problem with making axel and zara too overpowered (OP) in part 2 of cobra kai.

going into part 2 my biggest worry was that they were going to make axel and zara too OP- like never losing a fight in the tournament, and unfortunately that’s exactly what happened.

the issue with making them too OP is that it messes with the balance of our existing characters. when you introduce new characters and have them win every fight without losing not even one it cheapens the tournament and it also screws over our existing characters.

axel and zara could have been strong, shown as threatening without the need to make them bulldoze throughout all of their matches.

by never letting them lose, it sets up absolute annoying and ridiculous discourse like this:

‘it doesn’t make sense for this person to beat this person’

‘they were nerfed’

‘they only won because of plot armour’

and let’s be honest. the ‘plot armour’ discourse is fucking stupid. every character in the show has plot to some extent. if they didn’t, they wouldn’t have made it this far in the show. but also, why would they have 2 characters who were introduced in part 2 of the last season win over sam, miguel and robby who have been here since season 1 and tory who has been here since season 2. that literally wouldn’t make any sense.

moving on, if our existing characters had lost to the new characters that wouldn’t been fine. like that is not the issue here. the issue is that axel and zara completely dominated the tournament. it should have been balanced.

axel and zara should have been shown to be beatable by actually losing matches in the tournament. and if the writers didn’t want them losing matches, the least they could’ve down was allow them to take hits in their matches. here’s how:

1. zara vs another competitor in different dojo (like tiger strike or redentores) in an early round OR vs tory or sam | let zara lose a match to one of them but come back stronger later in the tournament, showing she can adapt easy from a loss.

2. axel vs competitor | have axel lose a match against the competitor in a very close match, only after giving the person he is fighting against a really tough time, pushing his competitor to his limits.

3. injures and exhaustion playing a role here | show them both struggling with fatigue, and having minor injuries, proving that they aren’t fucking invincible and the tournament is tough for everyone involved.

but instead, we got axel and zara just bulldozing their way through the tournament like it was nothing. the big brawl too. in the big brawl, no one landed a hit on axel. zara beat tory in the opening fight with cobra kai vs iron dragons and in the big brawl tory only managed to land one kick on zara before zara regained control. it’s sooo frustrating that they were made out to be so untouchable and invincible.

what makes this worse is learning that choreography was cut that actually showed them both taking hits. i’ve posted this on my blog here a bit ago but there was choreo cut in which tory was getting the upper hand on zara but that didn’t make the cut.

zara was also supposed to take hits in the semi finals against maria. this comes from the woman who plays maria (jewels) in an interview on youtube.

and axel was also meant to take hits from kwon in the big brawl. this also came from an interview with brandon who plays kwon.

like.. that’s still not ideal but it’s at least better than making them untouchable.

this has been sitting in my drafts for a while now and i’m posting this ahead of part 3 since that drops in a few days, also the fact that we know someone is gonna be beating axel and zara in the sekai taikai.

i can’t believe i have to sit through ‘axel/zara was nerfed’ and ‘it doesn’t make sense for zara/axel to loose to..’ ‘… beating axel/zara is unrealistic’

like dude cobra kai was never a realistic show in the first place, don’t piss me off. ‘in reality this character would win’ no shit dude. like that argument is so stupid and irrelevant. like thank you so much for pointing out the obvious ??

as if those people who say this aren’t insufferable enough they’re gonna be even more insufferable now that they’ve basically been given the ammo to say all of this shit.

it’s actually really funny to me that i was under the impression that we would definitely, absolutely get flashbacks from when tory left MD, and when she got to barcelona and what happened in the middle of all that.

and we just didn’t. idk why i had trust in those damn writers from the beginning

they can’t do SHIT right !

also made it a point to show us her grief and how she dealt with mothers death in part 1, only for her not to discuss at all and not even mention her mum in part 2.. just lovely🤗

The "I wish you could celebrate with us" it's not cute, it's not nice, it's not what the writers think they were doing for that friendship.

This was condescending as hell.

And my worst nightmare coming true, which was CK losing and Tory looking longingly at MD cause they are the heroes/saints and if she just chose the right side she could've been happy with them, but she chose wrong and now she has to suffer even more cause she didn't learn her lesson that MD is right and CK is wrong.

THAT'S UTTER BULLSHIT.

She shouldn't feel bad she chose CK when said MD gave zero fucks about her (for MONTHS apparently), gave her spot to Hawk like it was nothing and were then telling her they would've been there for her if she asked/went to them.

That girl was grieving and left your dojo in tears, I don't think she needed to FUCKING ASK for you to be there for her.

i’ve said this in like multiple of my posts but cobra kai would’ve benefited from having more than 10.. im thinking 15-20 episodes in a season, with obviously better writers as well as having the run time for an episode be up to an hour or just over that.

writing this season was very buns lol. like very, the characters in ck universe deserved better than what ever the hell the writers gave them. all of them.

they try and fit so much plot into 5 episodes with said episodes only being 30-37 minutes. maybe it would’ve been fine for seasons 1 and 2. more so the earlier seasons. but they introduced so many ‘new’ characters who need good arcs and developments and also the plot.

why did they have tory have a brother if they weren’t gonna expand on that. he’s strictly used as a plot device. i genuinely forget she has a brother until it’s mentioned. the writers could’ve done so much with that if they cared enough i think.

it’s like they add shit for characters for plot and they don’t understand how to expand on it so it’s just left unanswered.

for example: made episode 5 all about tory’s mothers death.. yet in part 2 she’s only mentioned twice (none by tory herself) and we see her playing with that bottle cap from the flashback. where is her grieving, how’s her mental state? what’s going through her mind?

moving on there are so many things that could’ve been expanded on like johnny and robby’s relationship, friendships could’ve been built, relationships too. i’m not gonna just solely place blame.. they (writers) didn’t know how big ck would be in the future but still lol.

as you introduce more characters and the plot changes, surely some things would change along with that and it just hasn’t 😖

doesn’t help that writers love showing their favourites and obvious bias as well lol. for season 6 writers have just been scrambling trying to find out ways for drama to continue or just stupid plots for the story.

while i see what angle they’re aiming for .. shit could’ve been done literally so much better. as i said, with better writers.

i don’t watch enough movies or tv shows to know who to name but i’m sure plenty of writers in Hollywood would’ve been able to do a better job for sure.

like there’s way too many things that just don’t make sense, and so many things that i would change when it comes to plot, introducing new characters and the arc they would have among plenty other issues.

uhm that’s all i think.

i beg, i need you people who are saying this to be very very serious.

some people may disagree with this but part 2 wasn’t robby’s.. at all. fighting kwon in episode 9 and then having some good moments in the brawl doesn’t cover up for how dirty he actually was done in part 2.

robby losing fights due to being thrown off because of tory and i understand that. if it happened in like one episode say episode 6 for example and he lost 2 fights.. i wouldn’t be here complaining.

it’s really jarring that it lasted over 3 episodes completely. it genuinely didn’t need to. y’all see how quick robby got it together after hearing those motivational words from miguel.. that’s truly all he needed lol.

motivational words.. words of affirmation. i’d rather they had johnny do it but miguel is fine too. that’s all he needed to get his head in the game.

insane to me that no one was actually there for him when it was crystal clear that he was struggling and having issues.. what’s worse is them knowing what the issue he’s having is.. instead of helping him out they shit talk him.

and god for fucking bid, robby fans actually want a good arc for him lol. the writers clearly and obviously don’t like robby. it’s literally in your face.

all robby fans ask for is literally just him being happy for once and him not being done dirty. but he was done dirty, yet a fucking gain and it’s just beyond annoying.

idk why they seem to think that one fight means he had his moment when it’s not. dude was thrown off balance for 3 episodes, dealing with his own shit and no one having his back on top of an unnecessary sexual assault for him?

writers obviously showcase who their favourites are. robby isn’t one of them. honestly with this season .. it just dawned on me how the writing just fully fucking declined. it went like 📉 real fast.

that writers room should have always been filled with writers who could challenge our current writers opinions.. thoughts, ones who actually care about their characters and arcs and developments, writers that actually have a LICK of fucking common sense, good ideas, good plans.

this ties into what i’ve said before but cobra kai isn’t a show where it’s just 10 episodes a season with episodes barely scraping the 40 minute mark.

with so much plot they try and fit in, for it all to actually work there should’ve been more than 10 episodes in season and an hour or over an hour episodes.

the benefits of this would be actually exploring plots FULLY, expanding on rivalries, characters development, friendships, good character arcs, relationships.. like i could go on lol.

(i don’t mean to go off topic im just very passionate about the opinions that i have.)

with part 3 leaks it’s not looking good either for robby fans.

so part 3 leaks. lol where the hell do i even begin when it comes to robby.

alright so the tournament moves to the all valley. we know this because in ‘inside the dojo’ on netflix there’s a clip of robby kicking axel. he’s still in miyagi do fit btw.

the scoreboard had said axel has 11 points and robby has 6. so robby looses.. but axel delivers an illegal kick/hit idk to robby’s knee and he breaks it.

robby has to go into hospital and it’s said he might never be able to walk again.. what absolutely FUCKERY!

there was a video posted. it looks like for some reason they’re all in season 4 all valley cobra kai gis. like tory, miguel all in the same gis. however, robby has a brace on for his knee and fucking crutches y’all.

like what a way to completely fuck up his character. like that’s the way they want robby to go out? fucking bullshit dude. the way they emphasised multiple times on that promise with tory.

‘you and me on that podium’ and that’s definitely not gonna happen. theres leaks about other characters of course but this post is just about robby so that’s all i’ll be mentioning.

i don’t want anyone coming into my mentions saying i’m gullible or the same old ‘ y’all believe everything you see’ because when i saw part 2 leaks on reddit/tiktok. i genuinely didn’t believe anything. like i thought no way the writers would do this.. like that’s stupid. leaks ended up being right.

(just saw some new leaks, miyagi do team in the white gis. obviously speculation that they just filmed multiple things so shit wouldn’t be spoiled. god knows tbh..)

anyways, i have no hope going into part 3 at all.

today i wanna talk about the big brawl.. season 6, episode 10 and the sekai taikai.. basically how eye would change some things.

this is gonna be an extremely long post .. i like to yap. clearly. so yeah.

initially, when i first watched i loved it.. but rewatching that specific scene. it’s giving lacklustre? i mean the choreography was good that’s for sure but i don’t know.. i feel like it could’ve been done so much better .. also feel like it didn’t really have to end in kwons death either.

the reason why it fell short for me and felt a bit anticlimactic was because it was just random? russian dojo came back and punched gunther in the face, everyone else started fighting.. like okay💀

the thing is there was no reason too really. (have the massive brawl breakout THAT way) a brawl is fine, but the way it was carried out isn’t. also the actual tournament way too short.

i have an idea; so gonna share it here for you all! this might be dumb but i don’t like a lot with this season 6 part 2 after initial thought. anyways here we go 😖:

start off by saying sekai taikai was too short. like a world tournament only being around 30-40 minutes. i would’ve had the episodes longer with a runtime of an hour or over an hour.

i think CK could’ve benefited from longer episodes and more episodes anyway and better writers. but i digress

each international dojo is introduced through short videos or flashbacks as the teams all join together in the arena or whatever, showcasing unique abilities and talent.

cobra kai and miyagi do both face frictions with other teams in the tournament. an aggressive and brutal dojo accuses cobra kai of being frauds who can’t live up to their intimidation tactics (blame kwon for that one, him intimidating others outside of the mat.) leads to that sort of confrontation.

miyagi-dos defense style is mocked by other dojo who sees it as way too soft. tension brews between alllll the teams. it isn’t just a cobra kai and miyagi do thing against all, all dojos have issues w each other.

several preliminary matches are shown, including standout fights featuring (sam, hawk, devon) and (tory, yoon, kwon) other cobra kai teamates deserved to be mentioned more.

tensions rise between tory and another dojos female fighter. tory isn’t balanced and dealing with the grief of her mother still. this girl from the other team is aggressive and fast. forcing tory to become the same. letting out her anger and almost gets disqualified.

johnny and daniel struggle to keep the peace between miyagi do. they’re fighting well, but not as good as they possibly could be. they’re losing a lot of matches and the team becomes completely divided. one side saying to fight aggressive; other side saying to defend

things begins to get a lil heated OUTSIDE of tournament.. rival dojos begin sabotaging each other outside the matches. a lot of street fights if you will. or just them fucking with eachother. an example: miyagi do member is ambushed completely by another dojo.

sam is targeted by a rival fighter in a dirty off the matt attack. causing noticeable, bad injuries, miguel jumps in to defend her and makes himself a target for specific dojo.

the brawl: a rival dojo manipulates tensions between miyagi do and cobra kai. possibly spreading a false rumour. like cobra kai plotting to sabotage a miyagi do fighter by injuring them with an illegal move they could disguise as not an illegal move lol.

yada, yada, yada. something happens, someone could hit someone else, the big brawl happenes!

during big brawl, tory could intervene to protect devon and takes a severe hit leaving her threatened with life changing injuries.

let’s get to kwon real quick: instead of him being an asshole and just getting killed. it’s established that kwon is one of the best fighters on the tournament. during brawl kwon gets ambushed by a jealous rival dojo or just a rival who wants to quite literally take him outta commission 😵.

kwon could also have a personality, so just not an asshole.. or not an asshole all the time , so he’s NOT a bad person and his team actually fw him.

say the ambush is so bad it triggers people from cobra kai to try and rescue him.. another way tory could get critically injured trying to protect him.

‘why tory?’ you may ask.. and why not? kwon was just introduced. it gives off more shock factor that a main character got hurt instead of him.

the impact of tory’s injury:

shock factor- tory being critically injured instead of kwon would exceed expectations.. like NO ONE could’ve seen it coming. her injury would create an emotional gut punch for characters like devon, sam, robby.

next, a full tournament arc. this would give the series time to delve into each fighting style, all the dojos. here’s how they could do it:

establish rivalries. cross-dojo friendships and betrayals .. this one could be interesting. inner team drama.

different fights during the sekai taikai:

tag team matches.

weapon kata demonstrations

survival matches

free for all battles

team relay matches

speed challenges

lastly, activities that the captains of each dojo would have to do or all the kids in the comp:

1. leadership seminar; captains are required to give speeches or participate in discussions about their dojos philosophy, training style, discipline, skills.

2. demonstration matches; captains are required to participate in matches to show their skills and set an example.

3. coaching workshop; leadership skills between the captains would be tested. captains would have to try and coach fighters from the other dojos.

as you can see if you’ve read up to this point, there’s A LOT .. i am a professional yapper. relaying back to my point. all this couldn’t fit into 5 episodes between 30-40 minutes, that’s why everything should’ve been bigger, longer.

CK doesn’t have the budget im aware so most of these are just headcannons unless someone wants to write a fic and do a whole rewrite.. which I might be up to do.. however i cant write for shit😭

fight choreo between zara and tory that was cut ?!?!

sorry im really pissed this was cut because it could’ve showcased tory’s improvement of her skills and her being able to hold her own.

+ i did like the scene between zara and tory but it was shortlived , and the fight scenes we got with tory in the big brawl was a bit of her ass getting beat.

i wish they showed more tory fighting in the brawl and this choreography would’ve ATE😭 nah this pmo man.

this is not me bitching and moaning.. just wish we had really cool fighting scenes with tory in the big brawl. but i DO get that not everything could’ve made it.. but still 🙁

all robby needed was some actual words of affirmation and for someone to believe in him for him to actually focus.

at the start, EVERYONE clocks that robby might not be okay. miguel says ‘robby is gonna be fine’ ,, demetri responds with ‘i wouldn’t be fine’ and shit he’s right because i wouldn’t be fine either. i’d be in a shambles 🙁

in the hotel room, where they’re yapping about robby with no shame knowing he’s in the room WITH them just taking a shower and talking about his performance. they KNOW what the issue is.

but noooo instead of being good friends / teammates we’re gonna shit talk him, and not be there for him.

it was OBVIOUS what the issue was, LIKE SEE-THROUGH, GLASS, VERY CLEAR. like after watching that shit you can’t tell me that people in miyagi do actually gaf about him. poor dude was obviously not okay and struggling but instead, people taking slick ass jabs at him, yapping and bitching and moaning about a captain title.. instead of simply being there for him.

to further emphasise on that let’s talk about bar scene.. robby in that bar, sam left. but his team WAS there. you’re telling me that they all just left knowing damn well robby still in that fucking bar drinking up a storm. more so, how could they NOT know?? and people expect me to believe they CARE?

maybe in another universe, not this one.

i said this before but it took miguel way too long to apologise to robby + ask what’s wrong. robby just got done dirty over and over again in this part.

i was expecting robby to be unbalanced becasue of tory, i was thinking it would’ve happened maybe twice? but it was literally annoying continuous. it pissed me off actually.

like no one believes in him, girlfriend put him on break, gets SA’d, doing terribly in fights, what the fuck man?

i was gonna add johnny in this and say that johnny should’ve picked up on it but he cares more about devon, miguel than his actual son.

i hate that i only discovered cobra kai this year on its last season.. over a few months i’ve just fell in love with the show completely.

excited for part 3, but realising when that drops cobra kai ends is a weird feeling. also a feeling i cant describe because it just feels weird?!

i fell in love with the characters the cast. it’s all just crazy lol.

sidenote: considering sekai taikai will probably be over in like one or two episodes max, i hope we get the couples finally able to be couples.

kinda forget that they’re all gonna have trauma and be scarred for life becasue of kwons death 🫠

regardless, i hope they end cobra kai off beautifully.

and i hate that the show is never gonna address robby’s SA. they’re gonna brush over it like nothing happened as if we’re stupid or something.

robby was drunk as fuck and didn’t give consent at all, and they’re sick for trying to push it as robby ‘cheating’ when it’s clearly not what that is.. AT ALL.

the show isn’t gonna address it, and the people who are watching the show, the viewers, are making excuses for zara, saying that it didn’t happen (are y’all blind?) that robby should be lucky, ‘it’s fine cause zara is hot’

it’s truly disgusting and disturbing. it’s all really nasty. i hate how when she kissed him after leaving her room he literally looked so lost, numb and you could tell he was completely out of it.

plastering it as a ‘hook-up’ or ‘cheating’ is nuts when the show clearly implied it as SA. it’s not taken seriously in the show, and a whole group of people are not taking it seriously as well.

if you don’t think it’s SA, im gonna assume you’re dumb or dense, didn’t pay attention or just realise it’s SA but you don’t give a shit.
