thinkin’ about how izuku hasn’t said/thought katsuki’s name (well, kacchan, but katsuki just said that’s his name so…) since the final war started.
in fact, whenever he thinks about katsuki, he actively changes the subject of that thought to something related to katsuki.
this isn’t a new thing for izuku. he is the unreliable-est of narrators. especially when it comes to his feelings—other than platonic admiration—for katsuki.
so, lets look. [spoilers for chapter 362+]
izuku’s reaction to katsuki’s death is wordless. very par for the course with izuku. this boy does not explicitly describe his feelings very often (if ever). [367]
—however, it is powerful. izuku doesn’t need to say anything to convey how he feels in this moment.
but that’s not the moment i’m most interested in. [379]
that tomb. no one else is dead atop the UA battlefield. it is a tomb because katsuki is lying dead on it.
these are both events that you’d need plenty of context to fully understand. izuku makes us do mental gymnastics to understand how he feels.
but who doesn’t do that?
katsuki.
just another example of them approaching their relationship exactly how you’d imagine the other one acting.
the kind sweetheart should be the one thinking about the boy he loves despite staring death in the face.
and the cocky asshole should be the one suppressing his feelings out of shame.
the kind sweetheart should’ve been the one to take the near-fatal stabbing for the boy he loves.
the cocky asshole should’ve been the one to then go on an almost murderous rampage following that.
they’re turning into each other.
