An Artist’s Studio Constructed Entirely Out of Cardboard
Tom Burckhardt has fulfilled his childhood fantasy. He constructed a realistic clubhouse entirely out of cardboard! Ordinarily a painter, he built this artist’s studio using only hot glue and black paint, and pieced together a floor, roof, and elaborate work stations. The installation has been touring art museums as an exhibit since its creation in 2005.

A British photographer made the lightning decision to quit the UK to chase storms Down Under and was rewarded with these striking shots. Oliver Kay, 40, left his dead-end IT job in Manchester almost a decade ago with wife Helen in search of a new life in Perth, Western Australia. He mixes a job with one of Perth’s biggest mining companies with his weekend passion of photography. And Oliver struck gold after being woken up by thunder at 3.30 in the morning and taking amazing pictures of lightning filling the sky above Hillary’s Marina in his adopted home city. “This iPhone you’re interacting with isn’t a mysterious piece of magic that just appeared in your hands. Engineers designed it, and engineers made it, and everything that it does somebody had to figure out how to make.”

So big that we have to roll it out over two whole days, in fact. It’s a brand new set of tools for making posts. It’s clean, it’s powerful, and if you don’t have it yet, you’ll have it soon.

First 3 Days in Dubai
Here is a photographic round up of my first 72 hours in the surreal city of Dubai. So far I have mostly explored the Marina and Business Bay, with a small venture out in to the new development regions of Dubailand, including Sports City and Motor City.
Over the next few days I will be exploring west towards Jebel Ali.

In just over a week I will be embarking on my most ambitious project since visiting Mount Everest and the fabled Himalayas. Until March I will be exploring the mountains, deserts, seas and cities of the United Arab Emirates.
It will be a return to photographing the globe and a focus on the geography and culture that resides on the shores of the Persian Gulf. I will be regularly blogging about the country and at the end will have select pieces going into a very exciting exhibition in London that I am apart of.
Stay tuned for all the Arabian peninsula has to offer, I can’t wait to be back in a desert!
