This supercapacitor battery can be recharged 30,000 times

This Supercapacitor Battery Can Be Recharged 30,000 Times

Everyone and anyone with a smartphone know it is not long before your phone holds a charge for less and less time as the battery begins to degrade. But new research by scientists at the NanoScience Technology Center at the University of Central Florida (UCF), USA, could change that. The team have developed a new method for producing flexible supercapacitors that can store greater amounts of energy and can be recharged over 30,000 times without degradation. This new method could transform technology such as electric vehicles and mobile phones in the future.

‘If you were to replace the batteries with these supercapacitors, you could charge your mobile phone in a few seconds and you wouldn’t need to charge it again for over a week,’ said University of Central Florida researcher Nitin Choudhary.

The UCF team has attempted to apply newly discovered 2D materials that measure just a few atoms thick to supercapacitors. Other scientists have also tried formulations with other 2D materials including graphene, but had only limited success. The new supercapacitors are composed of millions of nanometre-thick wires coated with shells of 2D materials. The core facilitates the super-fast charging and discharging that makes supercapacitors powerful, and the 2D coating delivers the energy storage ability.

‘We developed a simple chemical synthesis approach so we can very nicely integrate the existing materials with the two-dimensional materials,’ said Yeonwoong Eric Jung, assistant professor of the study. Jung is working with UCF’s Office of Technology Transfer to patent the new process. ‘It’s not ready for commercialisation,’ Jung said. ‘But this is a proof-of-concept demonstration, and our studies show there are very high impacts for many technologies.’

Taking ‘Dronies’ with Traveler and Drone Photographer @wrenees

To see more from Renee’s travels, follow @wrenees on Instagram.

“The first time I ever saw a drone, I knew that I wanted to have one,” says Renee Lusano (@wrenees), who uses her drone to photograph vast landscapes. “Drones really appeal to me because they’re a fun toy, but also a photographic tool. And as I started to travel more, I thought a drone would be a great way to experience, capture and photograph more on each of my trips.”

A freelance designer based in Los Angeles, Renee takes advantage of her flexible schedule to travel the world, visiting far-flung places like Antarctica, Easter Island and Siberia with her friends (and sometimes with a hot dog costume). “I don’t enjoy having a routine,” she says. “The days and weeks are more memorable when I’m having new experiences.” Renee began creating @dronies — selfies with a drone — that “first show a somewhat mundane photo of myself, and then as the drone flies up, it reveals that I’m in some expansive and incredibly beautiful place. Soon, you don’t even see me — it becomes not about the selfie, but about the scale of the environment I’m in.”

Throughout the Bible (our history) God says "Fear not" and that's the truth of it. Fear leads to anger, anger to hate which is a path to destruction. Don’t go down that path. The late President John F. Kennedy stated “ And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what you can do for your country.”  What are you doing with your talents? Again the story of the three servants that were given money from their master. The one that did nothing with it, well you know the story. Use your talents and help make today great! We are all looking forward to seeing what you do. :)

Huawei Are Stepping Things Up And Ready To Compete With Helio P60 And Snapdragon 670 Thanks To Their

Huawei are stepping things up and ready to compete with Helio P60 and Snapdragon 670 thanks to their new mid-range Kirin 670 chip. Bringing all the top A.I. features from Kirin 970 and emphasizing on 3D perforamnce rather than CPU which will make gamers very happy.

Featuring the company’s leading NPU chip along with a new Hexa-Core configuration with 2xA72 Cores for performance and 4xA53 cores for efficiency, but the biggest upgrade is in the graphics department. Kirin 670 will come packing the same Mali G-72 like in the Kirin 970 and Samsung’s latest Exynos 9810 as well as Mediatek Helio P40/60/70 but with a MP4 variant. This boost gives the Kirin 670 a staggering 150% boost in 3D graphics over Kirin 659 found in Huawei’s current mid-range phones like the Mate 10 Lite and P Smart! It also gives it a 30% advantage over Helio P60 and up to 50% over Samsung’s Exyno 7885! While the chip may not light up the CPU performance benchmarks with expected 1400 ST and 4000 MT in Geekbench it is more than enough considering it’s meant for phones below $400.  Theoretically, I am giving it a rough 120,000 Antutu points which should pull it ahead over Snapdragon 636, but a tad below the Helio P60 as a combined performer. I expect much higher 3D scores than P60 and SD636 and to utterly destroy any NPU AI related tasks and image processing. It should overall nearly double the Antutu points over Kirin 659 and that is not a small feat for the same price! First phone to be powered by Kirin 670 will be the Nova 3 coming on March 20th with a 19:9 aspect ratio (notch) and Dual Rear Cameras.

The Koss PortaPros: One Month Later

About a month ago, I ordered the Koss PortaPro headphones from Amazon. With $50, I wondered if I could buy anything that could sound substantially better than my Beats Solo HDs. After looking at reviews on CNET, PC Magazine, and the like, I decided to go with the Koss. The PortaPros in particular are known for their audiophile status in headphone circles because of their 80s design. According to Koss, not even the design has changed, which I don’t mind. They’re a rather unique looking pair, and no one is going to confuse them for anything else.

I can say for certain that they sound as well as every review says they are. The PortaPros do not have as much bass as the Solos, but to me, that’s a plus because it’s not masking the lows, the mids, or highs. I’ve listened to Beethoven’s Symphony 9 with both these and the Beats. There really is a difference, and I know now what CNET meant by the Beats’ “muddy sound.”

image

I don’t claim to be an expert. CNET’s review about the PortaPro’s sound quality is much better than my own analysis, and yet, how comfortable have they been in the month that I’ve had them? It’s takes a little time since the headphones adjust via a fully exposed collapsible steel band. They’re designed so that they fit exactly against the head.

image

The PortaPros can be adjusted the most spacious setting, which prevents them from collapsing before the user puts them from their head. I found this useful for placing them around the neck when I wasn’t listening to music because the metal band does bite into the neck if it’s not fit properly. However, I don’t find this cumbersome at all.

image
image

I’d recommend to not place the earpads directly on the ears when wearing these. Doing so will not affect the sound quality at all, and depending on the individual, this adjustment is anywhere from a millimeter to a centimeter or so. Sometimes, the earpads press too hard on the ear because of the pressure the metal band exerts, but this can be alleviated by the method above or by the comfortZone setting just below the band.

One month later, I can say that I definitely recommend these. They have a learning curve, but it should only take a day or two to get accustomed to its design. The biggest knock on the Koss PortaPros is not sound quality (not by a long shot) but comfort due to its design. Even so, I’d fine the comfort to be better than my $200 Beats Solo HDs. My rating for that is a 3 out of 5, and my overall rating is a 4.25. If you don’t mind the learning curve and the open design, buy these. You won’t regret it - especially since it has a lifetime warranty.

Rating Breakdown:

Sound: 5/5

Design: 4/5

Comfort: 3/5

Customer Service: 5/5

Overall: 4.25/5
