Huawei are stepping things up and ready to compete with Helio P60 and Snapdragon 670 thanks to their new mid-range Kirin 670 chip. Bringing all the top A.I. features from Kirin 970 and emphasizing on 3D perforamnce rather than CPU which will make gamers very happy.
Featuring the company’s leading NPU chip along with a new Hexa-Core configuration with 2xA72 Cores for performance and 4xA53 cores for efficiency, but the biggest upgrade is in the graphics department. Kirin 670 will come packing the same Mali G-72 like in the Kirin 970 and Samsung’s latest Exynos 9810 as well as Mediatek Helio P40/60/70 but with a MP4 variant. This boost gives the Kirin 670 a staggering 150% boost in 3D graphics over Kirin 659 found in Huawei’s current mid-range phones like the Mate 10 Lite and P Smart! It also gives it a 30% advantage over Helio P60 and up to 50% over Samsung’s Exyno 7885! While the chip may not light up the CPU performance benchmarks with expected 1400 ST and 4000 MT in Geekbench it is more than enough considering it’s meant for phones below $400. Theoretically, I am giving it a rough 120,000 Antutu points which should pull it ahead over Snapdragon 636, but a tad below the Helio P60 as a combined performer. I expect much higher 3D scores than P60 and SD636 and to utterly destroy any NPU AI related tasks and image processing. It should overall nearly double the Antutu points over Kirin 659 and that is not a small feat for the same price! First phone to be powered by Kirin 670 will be the Nova 3 coming on March 20th with a 19:9 aspect ratio (notch) and Dual Rear Cameras.

Oh, snap. BlackBerry and Facebook have apparently been in a bit of a tussle over the years in regards to a patent Facebook is supposedly infringing on. That tussle seemingly evolved into a full-blown fight today.
BlackBerry has sued Facebook over a messaging-related patent the company is accused of infringing. Details are scant right now, but it’s likely a patent BlackBerry has been holding onto since the days of BBM. BlackBerry offers a rough overview:
“Defendants created mobile messaging applications that co-opt BlackBerry’s innovations, using a number of the innovative security, user interface, and functionality enhancing features.”
The lawsuit seemingly includes not just Facebook Messenger, but also WhatsApp and Instagram.
We’re not sure what exactly Facebook would be infringing on, but from Facebook’s initial response to the lawsuit, it sounds like BlackBerry is grasping for some pretty frivolous straws.
Here’s how Facebook put it:
“BlackBerry’s suit sadly reflects the current state of its messaging business. Having abandoned its efforts to innovate, BlackBerry is now looking to tax the innovation of others. We intend to fight.”
Yikes. The funny thing is that Facebook isn’t wrong, and at the same time they aren’t totally right. We know BlackBerry could innovate if they really wanted, but they just don’t. And maybe that’s not a bad thing.
It’s not profitable for them to compete in the smartphone hardware market like they used to, and the company seems to be headed back in the right direction with their new software services approach. And even if we’re talking about the innovations of BBM in a contemporary sense, there’s no denying BBM started the messaging revolution that originally vaunted BlackBerry into popularity.
A qualifying statement, that was not. No matter what BlackBerry’s history is, they have seen competitors whisk by them with great advancements in the messaging world, and if they’re using a crucial patent to go after what we can consider commonplace technology in 2018 then Facebook is totally justified in their aggressive posture. We’ll reserve judgment either way until more facts surface.

Compare 2 Tablets: Sony Xperia Tablet Z vs Nexus 10
The Nexus 10 was something of a breakthrough device, bringing with it a high-resolution display as well as a price that’s fairly aggressive. But with Sony finding its stride with mobile design in 2013, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is a serious competitor. So which way should you turn if you’re looking for a big screen Android tablet? Take the purity of the Nexus 10 or the pettiness of the Xperia Tablet Z? In short, which is the best tablet for you?
1. Display face-off The display is essentially what a tablet is and the Nexus 10 has a super-sharp 10.1-inch PLS display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. That’s 300ppi, incredibly sharp for a tablet. The Xperia Tablet Z is also 10.1 inches, but has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. That’s 224ppi, and you’ll notice the difference using these tablets side by side, as the Nexus just looks better. The Sony display is also noticeably warmer. Whites aren’t as bright and clear, looking more yellow. Although this saturation boost colours, the Nexus 10 just looks more realistic.
2. Who’s a lightweight? Sony has poured a lot into the design of the Xperia Tablet Z and it shows. While the Nexus 10 is 8.9mm thick, the Sony tablet struts in at 6.9mm, making it incredibly slender. That’s a real bonus when it comes to carrying the thing in your bag, but not as much as the weight: the Z weighs just 495g, whereas the Nexus is 603g. In the hands, that’s a weight you really feel when watching movies or playing games: the Sony tablet is a joy to handle.
3. Designed to dunk If you like to take your tablet into the bath, then the Xperia Tablet Z is definitely the model to choose. With IPX5/7 certification, it doesn’t mind submersion in water, so long as all the ports have their covers in place. That’s a double-edged sword, however, as every time you want to charge it, you’ll have to remove those covers.

I just found out about this today. This was the Doctor who had performed my knee replacement and was treating me before and after the surgery. I am very upset at his death and I hope all of you join me in praying for his family. I will miss Dr. Serocki very much as will his friends, colleagues and patients I’m sure. He was a great doctor, very caring and conscientious. This is a tremendous loss for our community. Again, I ask that you join me in praying for his family. Thank you all. Rick Young

15 years Repairing Electronics Here: With Liquid Damaged Electronics, DON'T Use Rice, Instead Use A Fan (explanation inside)
I’ve spent nearly 20 years repairing liquid/water damaged electronics. More specifically, cell phones. In the old days, we’d open the phones up, clean the corrosion, resolder, etc. Recently, they’ve (the manufacturers) moved away from local repairs and moved more towards warranty replacements, swap outs (FRU = factory replacement units) & insurance. Now if you want your electronics repaired locally, you have to visit 3rd party independent people since you can no longer have it done in a corporate-ran store.
I know rice is the go-to recommendation for water damaged phones and other electronics, and it works, to an extent. It will passively absorb moisture. Unfortunately, you don’t want to passively absorb the moisture, you want to actively remove the moisture as quickly as possible. The longer the moisture is sitting on those circuit boards, the higher the risk of corrosion. And corrosion on electrical components can happen within just a few short hours. If the damage isn’t severe, we’d take contact cleaner (essentially 92% or better rubbing alcohol, the higher the percentage, the quicker it will evaporate) and scrub the white or green powder (the corrosion that formed) with a toothbrush to remove it. If that corrosion crosses contacts, it can cause the electronics to act up, fail or short out. The liquid itself almost never is directly responsible for failed consumer electronics, it’s the corrosion that takes place after the fact (or the liquid damaging the battery, a new battery fixes this issue obviously).
Every time I see someone recommend rice I kinda twinge a little inside because while it does dry a phone out slightly better than just sitting on a counter, it really doesn’t do much to prevent the corrosion that’s going to be taking place due to the length of time the liquid has had to fester inside the phone or whatever.
What you want to do is set the item in front of a fan with constant airflow. Take the device apart as much as you can without ruining it (remove the battery, etc) so that the insides can get as much airflow as possible. Even if it’s not in direct contact with the air, the steady air blowing over the device will create a mini vacuum effect and pull air from inside. It’s just a small amount but it’s significantly better than just allowing the rice to passively absorb the evaporated moisture. True, rice can act as a desiccant, but a fan blowing over whatever is orders of magnitude faster.
I personally will take apart a piece of electronics completely, and put those items in front of a fan, and if you have the relevant knowledge, I highly recommend doing so as well. But if you don’t, it’s not that big of an issue. What you want to avoid at all costs, however, is heat. Do not put your phone inside an oven or hot blow dryer, heat can damage electronics just as bad as liquid, sometimes more so. Heat, extreme cold and liquid are bad for electronics & cell phones. A fan (lots of airflow) is 99 out of 100 times better at removing moisture quickly than rice. I would say 100 out of 100 but I’m sure there’s going to be some crazy situation or exception I haven’t thought of that someone will come in and point out. I’d like to remind people that exceptions are just that, they don’t invalidate the rule.
