✨Protection and fortune jar✨

My small jar by the window sill needed a refreshing. So I tried something a bit new and hoped it will help me! You can make it as well!

✨Protection And Fortune Jar✨

You’ll need:

Salt (Protection)

Bay leaf (Employment, wisdom)

Cinnamon (Success, prosperity)

Cloves (wealth, protection)

Cedar (protection, money)

Chamomille (money)

Amethyst (protection)

A jar, container, or sachet

Start by pouring the salt in your container then layout all your other herbs and crystals into the container, close the lid and you have your spell! You can place it anywhere you want to protect your fortune or attract it.

Hey guys here are some tips for charging objects for spell-casting and why!

1. Bury the item you want to charge. Sometimes an item is used so often or for so long it starts to absorb energies around it. Reconnect it to the earth, literally grounding the item.

2. Charge with heat. There are many ways you can add heat to an item. The hot sun, a candle, an oven, a stove top, even the microwave. Please be careful when doing this however as it is very easy to get burned. As someone of finnish decent however, sauna stones are something I have often, and would recommend others try!

3. Although an unusual way to consider charging, make sure the space around your altar is clean. Or clean something while carrying what it is you want to charge. The purpose of this is to transform the space, and remove additional energies that might be clogging up your spell

4. If possible, soak an item in salt water for a period of time. Salt’s status as an electrolyte means that it’s atoms carry a charge. I would recommend at least 24 hours. This is a very literal way to charge something, but also very easy. Note that any salt will work as epsom salts are also electrolytes (just not ones you should eat)

5. Use the New or Full moon. Naturally these are powerful times to spell cast, collect, and charge items, as even ocean waves are influenced moreso during these times. This also may be why your spells are not working–about a weak after a full or new moon, the moon is at its weakest. This reflects in the oceans as neap tides. Avoid spellcasting during those times.

6. Have someone close to you hold the item for a length of time. Every person has their own energy, and their own shared energy, and if the spell involves them, or they have a quality you want to invoke in yourself,

7. For spells relating to change, take items from, or use a charging spell in liminal spaces. What does this mean? Loosely, liminal places that are only meant for transition, getting from one place to another. These are also places that make most people uneasy because lingering feels like it is outside of it’s normal use. This includes stairwells, elevators, train stations, empty parking lots, schools during break, even when at art galleries alone, because they imitate rooms we live in, while not being livable space.

🔥🔥Firey Wall Of Protection Oil🔥🔥 . . This Is A Little How To I’m Sharing With You!! I Made

🔥🔥Firey Wall of Protection Oil🔥🔥 . . This is a little how to I’m sharing with you!! I made this pretty puppy on my own, and let me tell you this is POTENT!! I made it myself and can contest this shits awesome. Here’s how to make it! You’ll need: - jar - black salt - whole chilie peppers - cayenne powder - paprika - Palo Santo stick - cloves - cinnamon sticks - cinnamon powder - ginger powder - red pepper seeds - sea salt/pink Himalayan sea salt - bay leaves - oil (be it olive, cooking, almond, what have you) - black candle - sandlewood incense . Light your incense, make sure you’re grounded, and your mind is focused for the task at hand. Please know this will take up a lot of your energy. Make your base with black salt and all powdered ingredients. It’s important that this have a strong foundation with hella protection properties so nothing can find a way through the barrier. Follow your gut and add each ingredient according to your intuition. As you add each item, really focus on this oils intent. You want it strong, powerful, Firey, and most importantly impenetrable. You want to make sure all your loopholes are tied, that there’s no room for error. Once everything is added, go ahead and pour your oil in, saying an incantation of your choice. As you do, say out loud exactly what you want this oil to do. Charge it, give it a job, leaving out no detail. Tell it what it protects you and your family from. Hold it, charge it, kiss it–until it feels right. Afterwards, set the jar in front of the black candle and light it, letting the spell charge and burn. DO NOT let the candle burn out, and DO NOT burn it out early. Let it go down and out all on it’s own. Now here’s where your gut comes in. When the spell is over, I sat my bottle on my windowsill and let it charge in the sunlight for 30 consecutive days. You can write a sigil underneath it to add an additional charge, but the suns energy gives it the burn you want. You don’t have to do it for 30 days, but for me and this oil, it’s not as effective if it’s charged in the sun for less. Once the 30 days are up, use it at your own will. Pour it in a small vial and wear it as a necklace (that’s what I did.) Anoint your doorways, windows, threshold, doorstep, friends, your car, yourself, anything. It’s potent and powerful!!

Grounding Stones Bowl

Grounding Stones Bowl

This may not look like much, but it’s actually one of the most helpful and incredible magickal things I have ever created, and I wanted to share it with all of you.

Essentially what the bowl of rocks does is sucks up negative energy and grounds you when you put your hands in the bowl. Basically, it’ll help you with anxiety, depression, anger, or any other negative emotion you might experience.

I’ve even had it completely calm a full blown panic attack.

Yeah, it’s that good.

Procuring the items to go in the bowl is easy. I just went to Walmart and got a glass bowl for like $3, and then 2 bags of decorative rocks for like $2. All in, this is about $5. And, you can always just go out and collect the stones yourself.

And, the spell is simple:

Cast your circle and call upon any spirits or dieties you normally work with.

Cleanse the rocks. I like to cleanse my items with all four elements, starting with incense and working my way around: candle, water, and then salt. I also like to say something to the effect of, “cleanse these (in this case) stones of all negativity and set them to the purpose of grounding energies and riding negativity.”

Create a sigil. I used a sigil that I actually created for another spell.

Grounding Stones Bowl

4. Charge and activate that shit and put it at the bottom of the bowl. This sigil I feel is the quintessential aspect of the entire spell. This sigil will act as basically a black hole for all negativity. It literally banishes and vanishes that energy.

5. Put your rocks in there. Hold the bowl in your hand and, while visualizing the stones sucking up negativity and making them vanish, solidify the bowls purpose by saying something like, “May this bowl of stones suck up and banish negative energies when anyone puts their fingers or hands in the bowl. So mote it be.”

And you’re done! Now, any time you feel like… Bleh- just shove your fingers in the bowl and allow it to suck up and banish that negativity from you. This can also be a great meditation tool as well.

Let me know your thoughts!!

Protection/Warding Black Salt

image

Not to be confused with volcanic salt/Himalayan black salt/kala namak. Black salt has strong protective properties, especially when combined with other protective/uncrossing herbs (herbs meant to undo a curse or hex). It’s used to absorb negative energy, create wards, and undo curses. It’s also good for banishing and binding. Here’s my recipe:

What you’ll need:

Cleansing items, such as smoke, bells, spray, whichever you personally use.

Sea Salt

Charcoal Disk (or charcoal powder)

Black Candle

Rosemary

Garlic Powder

Chili Powder

Crushed Red Pepper Flakes

Paprika

Black Pepper

Black Candle

Bowl

Mortar & Pestle

Black stones/crystals

Any additional protective items you may have. (Here I gathered dried red peppers, dried chili peppers, lemon, sage, and ashed from a Litha bonfire.) These items are for You to draw some extra energy from, and won’t be directly added to the salt.

Frankincense and/or Dragon’s Blood incense.

Instructions:

First, cleanse your space using whatever best works for you.

After cleansing, start your frankincense and/or dragon’s blood incense, this will be going for the duration of the spell.

Light your black candle.

Gather your supplies as seen in the picture.

As always, make sure your intention is strong, and continuously draw from it. Return to your intent no matter how often your mind wanders (which it will, that’s ok).

In a bowl, mix the salt with the herbs first.

Remember your other protective items are there for you to use. If needed, refocus on their protective energies and draw from that.

Use a mortar and pestle to crush the charcoal disk separately. This takes a lot of physical energy, and it is very messy. If you prefer to use charcoal powder, that’s ok, though charcoal disks will be cheaper. I like charcoal disks because I feel more energetically involved in/connected to the process.

Mixing counterclockwise, mix the very finely crushed charcoal into the salt. Mix. Use as many charcoal disks needed to get to the level of darkness you want.

Mind wandering? Remember your intent! Refocus!

When you’re done, transfer the black salt into a jar and set the crystals around it in a circle. Let it continue to build and charge this way, until you feel it is ready. If you’re not sure, it can also be until the candle or incense goes out.

image

Done! Sprinkle this around the parameter of your wards, such as along doorways and windows. It can also be used during unhexing/curse breaking spells, general protection spells, banishing, and binding.

This is NOT FOR CONSUMPTION.

Even if you used edible activated charcoal, know that 1. charcoal interacts with many medications by basically absorbing them and rendering them useless, including birth control, diabetes medications, cancer drugs, and more. and 2. I’m not sure this would taste great?

Sun Spirit Charm

To guard against sorrow

Materials:

Four white candles, 6 to 8in long

One yellow candle, 6 to 8in long

Cinnamon incense in holder

Matches or lighter

Pen

One small disk of oak wood cut from a severed branch

One can of clear varnish

One 24in long cord

Timing: cast this spell on a waxing moon, and on a Sunday, ruled by the sun, patron of health and happiness

☀Cast a circle if that’s what your tradition calls for.

☀Place the candles in a row, with the yellow candle in the center.

☀Light the incense stick and all the white candles.

☀Using the pen, draw a circle in the center of the disk, surrounded by points to represent the rays of sun.

☀In the center of the circle, write:

Salve

Sol

☀Like the yellow candle, saying:

I invoke the powers of the life-giving Sun

I invoke the power of the sun’s fires

That sorrow be burned away

And happiness revealed

☀Allow the ink to dry in the light of the candles until they’re all burned down.

☀After, drill a hole near the edge of the desk. Varnish it to protect the ink markings. Then thread through it with the cord and wear it around your neck at all times.

Protection Stone

Protection Stone

What You Need:

black candle

a smooth stone, from a source of fresh water preferred

3 blackberries/5 elderberries/2 mulberries

½ teaspoon of olive oil

pepper

a pinch of sage

a few bay leaves

three petals plucked from a geranium

mortar and pestle (or something else to grind your herbs)

a glass jar with a lid

paintbrush (using your finger can also work!)

Method:

▽ Grind up your herbs and petals with your mortar and pestle, and once thoroughly blended, scrape them into your jar.

▽ Next, grab your berries and either use your mortar and pestle to grind them up, or use your hands to turn them to mush before throwing them into your jar.

▽ Carefully measure the olive oil with a ½ teaspoon and pour it into your jar, and throw in the amount of (ground) pepper you see fit. Remember that pepper is a powerful substance used in protection spells.

▽ Once all your components are in your jar, blend them all together using a fork, making sure to mix it up until it resembles a paste. If it still looks chunky, try adding a little bit more olive oil.

▽ Lighting your black candle, say an incantation or pray to your deity as you dip your paintbrush (or finger) into your protection paste, and paint a protection sigil/marking onto your stone. Some sigils I recommend can be found here, here, here, and here. An example incantation could go like this:

Blessed Divines, so loving and kind, Watch over me, and all that is mine; Please erase my fears, I will cry no tears; Let no such harm or hurt come to me, This here is my will, so Mote It Be.  ▽ When you finish painting your new protection stone, blow out the black candle and seal your glass jar with the lid. Whenever you feel the need to take extra precautions, just repaint your stone to give it a stronger intent! And there you have it! If you make your intention a lot more specific, (eg: I will feel safe when walking home, or I will be safe from nightmares), keep it in your pocket, or have it under your pillow.

Nightmare Magick

Nightmare Magick

To Prevent Nightmares

Wash an egg in cold water and, with a pencil, write the name of the person afflicted with bad dreams.

Put the egg in a dish, then place it on a nightstand close to the sleeping place of the person.

If the egg cracks or breaks, flush it down the toilet. Repeat the spell until the egg stays intact for 7 days. Flush the remaining egg.

Nightmare Magick

Citrine Nightmare Preventative

Before going to sleep, hold a citrine tightly in your dominant hand and chant:

Stone of joyful yellow light

I give my dreams to you tonight

Grab the bad ones, the rest leave free

So that I may dream peacefully

Place the stone under your pillow.

Nightmare Magick

To End Nightmares

To eradicate nightmares, empower three mullein leaves with the following chant, then place them under your mattress.

Herb of mullein, now absorb

Unpleasant dreams before they form

Bring to me a restful sleep

As I will, so mote it be

A Detailed Guide To Cleansing Your Tarot Deck

A Detailed Guide to Cleansing Your Tarot Deck

How often should I cleanse my deck and why?

Between every in-depth reading you do: they require a lot of energy and focus and can heavily impact the energy around your deck

When you get a new deck: you don’t know who has handled the deck before you or what energies surrounded it

If someone touches your deck: their energy can be easily transmitted through physical contact (which you could potentially use to your advantage if you’re reading for them)

When you see multiple cards from a recent previous reading appear in your current reading: a sign that the energies of the people you are reading for are becoming muddled

At different times of the year - equinoxes, full moons, first day of a season: routine cleansing is a great way to keep your cards in good shape

If you haven’t used it in a while: old, built up energies need to be cleared to help “wake up” your deck after it’s been sitting unused

How can I clean my deck?

With a cleansing sigil: place the deck on top to the sigil and write “Negative energy” or “Old energy” for removal

Passing through some sage smoke: sage is a great all around cleanser!

Shuffling while focusing on cleansing: shuffling reorganizes the cards and is a quick method for cleansing in between consecutive readings

Place a clear quartz on top: quartz, especially when charged with light from a full moon, absorbs negative and foreign energy really well

With the light of a full moon: the full moon represents new beginnings and holds strong cleansing power, place on a window sill overnight

Meditation with a focus on cleansing: sit near or hold your deck, close your eyes, focus on your breathing (count your inhale as 1, exhale 2, inhale 3, etc until 30), then imagine a white, cleansing light enveloping your deck

Make a salt circle around your deck: can get kind of messy, but the salt will absorb negative energy, make sure to dispose of it after!

Put the cards in order (by suit, element, number, or astrology): sorting your deck will give it a fresh start, make sure all the cards are upright as well!

Knock three times: another quick way to cleanse or “wake up” your deck, especially great for after you haven’t used your deck in a while

✨ signs of house fae ✨

okkkk this post is just for fun and for you babes are into the more mystical side of spirituality! signs there are faeries in your house :

you see lights dancing out the corner of your eye

your shoes seem to move - when I was little, I would always swear to my parents that my shoes would shift every time I woke up. the movements are usually so tiny that most people will dismiss it as their brains messing with them.

jewelry and shiny objects vanish  a l l   t h e   f u c k i n g   t i m e.  I once left a dangly earring on my bathroom counter, turned around, and looked back to see it slipping into the sink. it was as if a magnet was pulling it in, craziest thing in the world !! (then proceeded to cry because I really wanted to wear that fucking earring bitch)

you walk into a room and immediately forget what you went in there to do/get - sometimes just a psychological thing but if it happens randomly + frequently, could be a sign!

plants grow effortlessly around your house - even if you live in an urban area or don’t actively garden, you’ll find that everything just grows quickly.

birds, bees, wasps, etc. build nests around your house - even though there are a thousand other natural places for them to live.

your pets get random bursts of energy/excitement despite any visible stimulation - in celtic folklore this is considered a sign that the fae are playing around with your pets!

you hear bells, tapping, or singing at night or early morning - will sound like it’s distant but close at the same time, as if drifting from another realm.

🌷 feel free to add onto this list with your own signs and experiences! 🌷

What Is An Altar?
What Is An Altar?
What Is An Altar?
What Is An Altar?

What is an Altar?

Altars are a hub of your magickal energy. A lot of witches perform spells there, seeing it as a source of valuable energy. It is also a place of worship if you have patron deities. For worshippers, this is where you would communicate and give offerings to said deities. This is also a wonderful space to charge and store your magickal tools. Altars are not a witchcraft-specific object, either- most christian churches have Altars dedicated to Jesus Christ as well!

What can be considered an Altar?

Anything that you use for any of the above can be considered an Altar. I use a bookcase as an altar but it can be anything from a table to an entire room to something as small as a suitcase or even an altoid can- something used commonly among closeted witches as it is not easily found or recognized by loved ones who might be so pleased with the concept of Witchcraft.

How do I decorate my Altar?

You can decorate it in any way you like! An altar, like the Craft in itself, is an extremely personal concept. However, here are various common ways I have seen some being decorated:

To honor their ancestors

To celebrate the seasons

To celebrate holidays such as Ostara or Yule

To honor their deities

Minimalist, having only their supplies and tools with it

Here are some ideas for each one one of these examples on the above list:

To Honor Your Ancestors

Give Offerings of their favorite foods

Decorate it in their favorite colors

Have pictures of them on it

Leave letters addressed to them on the Altar, sending your love and appreciation to them wherever they may be in the afterlife.

To Celebrate the Seasons

Spring- decorate in bright colors such as yellow and pinks; regularly have flowers (real or fake) on or near it; dedicate your Altar to your patron fertility/life/nature deity

Summer- decorate in bold colors such as reds and greens; leave plants such as cacti or produce plants like tomato plants on or near it; leave offerings of fresh (preferably local and in-season) plants on it; dedicate your Altar to your patron god of passion/sun/hard-work

Fall- decorate in muted and comforting colors such as browns and oranges; leave offerings of wheat/cinnamon/squash; leave a small letter addressed to your late loved ones in this time of thinned veil; dedicated your Altar to your patron god of harvest.

Winter- decorate in colors such as whites or blues or even black; leave sprigs of evergreen tree needles or cones near or on it; dedicate it to your patron god of death or life cycles

To Celebrate the Holidays

Samhain- In this time of the thinnest veil, you would want to decorate your altar in a way similar to the way you would in honor of your ancestors. See above for ideas regarding that.

Yule- Leave an (artificial) burning yule log on it, have sun imagery to celebrate the return of the sun

Imbolc- Leave a burning candle (or an artificial candle on) on your altar all day; decorate with a bundle of wheat, a pomegranate, or other symbolism of fertility

Ostara- Decorate with jasper or incense for jasmine or any other floral scent; leave offerings of food; if possible, move it in front of the sun

Beltane- Decorate with phallic decorations; leave items on it that bring great joy to your life, leave a candle of an earthy smell burning

Litha- Decorate with imagery of the moon to welcome the growing darkness; leave it in dark colors for the same reason; similar to Imbolc, display symbols of fertility

Lammas- Decorate in Fall-themed colors; Leave an offering of (preferably home-made) bread

Mabon- Decorate your Altar in items and symbols of things that you are grateful for; leave a letter of thanks to your deity; cover in colors of transition such as orange-red, grays, blue-green, etc.

To Honor your Deities

Cover your altar in their patron colors

Display symbolism of their domain (for ex. A bowl of salt-water if they are over the Sea)

If their worship permits, display a portrait or artistic rendition of them! Feel free to do this yourself, no matter how you gauge your artistic abilities. I’ve even seen people represent gods with dressed-up dolls or barbies

Light an incense in a smell that reminds you of them

The Minimalist Approach

Typically these kinds of altars hold simply the tools of the trade and representations of the elements (none of this is mandatory ever and you should follow your gut with what is necessary for you):

Incense to represent air

Candles or light to represent fire

A bowl of water to represent… well… water

A bowl of salt to represent Earth

Athame

Candles

Crystals

Wand

What Is An Altar?

little girls who go around after it rains and pick up the worms off the sidewalk and throw them back in the dirt are the cornerstone of our society and we should all strive to have that level of compassion for each other and for the natural world

Simple Home Wards

For outside:

Drive sturdy sticks into the corners of your property to bolster those areas and strengthen wards. It adds firm definition to where you are warding. Using sticks from your property is a great way to connect everything on your land

Hammer three nails in the ground near your front door to act as a potent warning to spirits below.

Use solar powered lights to line your path to the door to keep it feeling bright, warm, and inhabited. Keep a small light on your keys and it will help to keep you from getting lost. Make sure to program all lights and keychain lights at the same time to sync them together.

Enchant wreaths to draw in abundance and repel misfortune and negative entities.

Choose a striking door knocker to act as a guardian against thieves and predators.

Plant hardy flowers and bushes that are native to/thrive in your area around all entrances and exits. Find out what the bees in your region like (if possible)!

Use windchimes to ward off entities looking for stagnant places. Sound and motion tend to clear away that kind of energy.

Draw (or use energy instead of a drawing utensil) a sigil on the outer walls of your home, especially on pillars and doorframes. You can do this before your home is completely built if you are in that process!

Draw similar sigils and/or statements on your driveway in the summer to bake them into your land and charge them. You can use water in a squeeze bottle to do this as well, and it will fade away immediately if your area is hot.

During the winter, you can also use water to cut through the snow or to freeze onto your property. Be careful, of course, and bear in mind where you or your pets may walk.

Use potted flowers to hide non-deteriorating crystals and wards. Put permanent wards inside the pots before planting.

For inside:

Enchant and place coins or other small tokens above every doorway and in every windowsill of your home to draw in wealth and repel malevolent forces. Bobby pins, dimes, toothpicks. It all works, but I recommend charging them every month or so.

Hang tapestries or other kinds of wall decor to break up stretches of potentially stagnant spaces. Clocks move and typically have a sound, which have always served me well in cleansing and keeping up with the flow of energy.

Salt lamps are actually quite useful. They are very dangerous for animals and small children, though. If you're good with the lamps being safe, they are excellent at cleansing, warming up, and protecting an area.

Rugs can be used to make wards all ob their own. You can create a design on the underside if you want, or just use energy to enchant it.

Wipe vents down with some sort of ritually clean and positively charged solution. Gem elixir, moon water, herbal tincture, etc.

Enchant fixtures already setup to protect you and your family. Smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, security systems, locks, etc. Use energy opposed to physical materials for most of these to protect their functionality.

Ward your attic. Birds get in, squirrels get in, entities and energies get in.

If you have a chimney, ward the fireplace or surrounding objects. Grates and screens are awesome for this.

🌘rainy day cleansing ritual🌒

🌘rainy Day Cleansing Ritual🌒

hello loves! this is my go-to ritual for when i need a serious session of cleansing, grounding, and everything in between.

it’s best performed on a rainy day, but as always my spells and rituals are completely adaptable. if you don’t have something, find a substitute; if you don’t want to do something, don’t do it. simple! i hope this ritual helps you get back to your own kick-ass self.

the physical space ritual (optional, but awesome)

clean your space. yes, i mean physically. having a clean, comfortable space to relax in is essential for your mental health. it’s also a great way to get any negative energy out of your body. pour all that emotion into your cleaning, and create a super-awesome space that makes you feel all warm and happy inside.

add something new. whether this is a storebought decoration you’ve been waiting to put up, or an idea for a switch around of furniture, change something up in your space. there’s nothing like the refreshing feeling of your space looking brand new, and you’ll have something to be proud of as well!

cleanse your tools, your bed, your walls… do your usual space-cleansing ritual that involves deep cleansing of everything you use on a day-to-day basis. getting rid of any built up energy will make the space you spend your time in feel so much fresher, i promise you.

find a comfy space, light your favourite cleansing incense (mine is lemon) sit back and relax, and move on to the self-cleansing ritual!

the self cleansing ritual

this is best performed on a rainy day, but if you can’t do that, try to visualise rain all around you. rainy mood music can help with this!

sit in a calm, comfy space where you can relax, and start to clear your mind. if you have a favourite go to method for meditation, use that. if not, i like to imagine my mind literally clearing, physically pushing all thoughts out of it.

concentrate on the sound of the rain. let the noise overtake your thoughts, and visualise the rain physically washing away any negative energy that’s built up over time.

get cathartic. cleansing can be as gentle or as brutal as you want. got any pent up emotions? let them out now, if you’re comfortable with it. just feel whatever you need to feel, and let it go. imagine the negativity just falling away from you with the rain.

as negative energy is leaving your body, visualise your personal energy drawing positivity from the earth beneath you. feel that strength wash over your body, and envisage your whole body being filled with happiness and gentle joy.

once you’re done meditating and cleansing, take a moment to just sit and exist. take as much time as you need to chill out and wake up.

anything after this should be done as self care, for you and you alone. got a favourite tv show? watch an episode. finally got enough money for something you’ve been eyeing for a while? buy that, and treat yourself. honestly, after all this you deserve a bit of self love!

so loves, that’s what i do when i need a serious cleanse and self-love session. i hope it helps you if you use it!

if you want to support me, and keep me out of financial despair, please consider buying a tarot reading here! anything you buy will help me pay rent for me and my family, so we can avoid homelessness. thankyou so much~

The Ascendant is important!

Here’s why:

The Ascendant does not just show “how people see you.”

The Ascendant signifies how you’ve entered into the world. It represents your birth, your first breath, and your first, strongest view of the world.

The 1st House rules over the head. The Ascendant can not only have a say on your facial appearance, but the overall vibe of your appearance as a whole.

The Ascendant serves as a spreadsheet for the placement of your planets. Without the Ascendant, you will not know which Houses your planets are in.

The Ascendant also sets the order of the signs ruling the Houses. The signs are in order on your natal chart, and the fact that the order can’t be changed shows that the Ascendant has a strong effect on the rest of your Houses. This implies that the rest of the Houses are connected in some way to the Ascendant.

The Ascendant is often accepted in many aspect patterns due to its important and visible effects.

The Ascendant is often used as a defense mechanism against the world as a way to keep oneself safe by covering the sign ruled by the 12th House. The defensiveness/covering of the Ascendant goes with the archetypal notion that Aries, the sign naturally ruling the 1st House is always defensive and on-guard from outside forces.

The Ascendant is often used to find one’s karmic lessons and directions in addition to the North and South Node.

The Ascendant is the start of the natal chart and is arguably one of the most important angles in the natal chart.

Teas and Tinctures

A more mundane method of producing sleep are herbal teas and tinctures. Caution is advised when ingesting any herb, no matter how safe it may seem. It is important to follow proper instruction and take the correct dosages. Teas are the more simple of the two, amounts will vary but generally steep the herb in a cup of boiling/hot water. You can add milk, sugar, or honey for taste. Good herbal teas include lavender, chamomile, skullcap (caution), mugwort (caution), hops, and mullein.

Tinctures are usually made from a very high proof alcohol infused with various herbs. These are usually taken in smaller doses either alone or in a glass of water. You can make your own tinctures but if you don’t have access to the ingredients, you can purchase tinctures at herbalist shops and health food stores. Popular herbs for sleep tinctures include valerian root, hops, passionflower, skullcap, chamomile, lavender, catnip, and lemon balm.

Dream pillows

Dream pillows are a sort of catch-all for sleep magic. You can use them for any purpose regarding sleep. Dream pillows are traditionally made by sewing together two pieces of fabric and stuffed with herbs like lavender and mugwort. If possible, collect herbs for dream pillows during the waxing or full moon. Color is something that can be taken into consideration when crafting a dream pillow, use personal color correspondences.
