Ten years. Holy wow. There are so many things I want to say that I don’t even know where to begin! But, first of all, I’m truly desolate that I wasn’t able to finish this piece properly in time; this was supposed to be a full work but unfortunately paired with my graduation, a nasty cold and just an overall busy year I just totally ran out of time. I intend on finishing this properly at some point, but for now all I can offer is the line work and the character flats. I hope you enjoy it anyway!

My brother and I have been close our whole lives. We first watched Gravity Falls together in November of 2015. These memories are some I hold so incredibly dear to my heart for so many reasons, but mainly because it was the summer of 2019 when my parents separated, and unfortunately also when my brother was hit very hard by puberty. He suddenly wanted nothing to do with me. We rarely even spoke because more often than not it’d end in a fight that brought me to tears. He hated me, and I could not stand it. I felt so lonely, so betrayed and, more than ever before, longed for the good ol’ days to come back to me.

Eventually, my brother’s destructive behaviour came back to bite him. One day I woke up to hear from some of our mutual friends that everybody had abandoned him; every single one had dubbed him a horrible monster and refused to talk to him ever again. He was completely alone, and, despite everything, I made the decision to ask him what was wrong. For the first time in years he opened up to me. We went on a long evening drive down the highway, just listening to his favorite music and seeing where the road would take us. After this, we finally began to talk again. He’d pop into my room every night just to say hello, watch YouTube and even asked me to teach him how to draw.

The reason I’m telling you all of this is because, during the endeavour, I was often reminded of Dipper and Mabel’s plight near the end of the series. It struck a cord deeper than I had expected it to when I rewatched it during this era, and it gave me hope. Gravity Falls was the last thing we had shared together and bonded over at the time. We created together, we imagined together, we loved together. The days we spent walking around the local track on sunny summer’s days musing over fun ideas for stories and fan-comics were some of the best ones of my life. So, you can imagine how difficult it was to feel like that had all been torn from me.

Nonetheless, just like the Pines twins (both sets! Happy birthday Stan and Ford <3 <3), we forgave each other. We’re best friends again, and I am so incredibly grateful for that. I can’t imagine my life without you, little bro, and I hope we continue to take on the world together for decades to come!

Thank you, Gravity Falls. Thank you for making me laugh, making me cry, making me think, making me feel and making me create. Thank you for the nights I spent curled up on the couch with my whole family, laughing and smiling together. Thank you for making me believe in the power of a sibling bond. Thank you for all of the inspiration, motivation and artistic growth (and being responsible for the first time I was drawing humans regularly!). Thank you for helping me bond and connect with my closest friends in the entire world. It is an absolute privilege to be able to be here to celebrate an entire decade of some of the best television to ever air. I know this show will never truly leave me; how could it after all of this? One day, I’m sure I will watch it again with my children, and then again with my children’s children, and create those memories all over again. And with each line, each frame, I’m sure I will look back to these memories. Moments forever frozen in time, where my family and I were as we should be: well and truly as one.

Oh man now I’m crying lol, sorry if that was a bit incoherent I am beyond exhausted (been drawing for like eight hours straight) :’D But hey, it came from the heart!

I'm totally open to art suggestions always! No rules really; if I don’t think it’s appropriate or I don’t wanna do it I simply won’t do it, no harm done. Definitely far more likely to go through with ones about my favorite fandoms or special interests though. You're always free to ask if you’re unsure; I don't bite and I’m pretty much desensitized to all internet weirdness. :]

Sketch dump: Smiling Friends edition! My brother found it very strange that Alan and Glep are my favorite characters, and I’ve got no clue why either. They’re both deranged warped little creatures and I like that. I think they’re homies

Apprehensive towards posting sketches because they’re so unpolished but then I think about how I love it when artists I follow post sketches and that made me feel better. Let me know if you’re into these! A couple more for other fandoms coming in a sec (Gravity Falls and Kaput and Zösky though the former might take me a bit cause holy wowza do I have a ton)

Oh my god I loved the shaker concept so much that I bought like $50 worth of art supplies and made my own janky one out of construction paper! Never done anything like this before and though it’s definitely no acrylic I still really like how it turned out haha. Sealed away forever. Hope you like it! 8D

First draft of this was done at like 3 AM and looked like total crap. Thankfully it’s now a reasonable hour and it looks slightly less like crap! Though I did some more experimenting so it’s not totally crapless, but that’s okay, ‘tis just a silly. Enjoy!

Hello there, welcome to my Tumblr! I’m Emily, a stereotypical polite Canadian with a love for art, science, and a little bit of everything else. As my username suggests, I’m deeply enraptured by chiropterology, having begun working with the Vancouver Island Community Bat Program when I was 15. I am trained to handle bats and assist in keeping track of local populations as well as educating the public about our dear flying friends.

I’m a cheerful yet super nerdy person. I love sunshine, cuddles, parties and bright colors just as much as I love deep-dives into Wikipedia, biology, puzzles, and collecting dead insects. I believe in kindness, compassion, and the goodness of people, and so I’m pretty chill and friendly; if you ever wanna chat, nerd-out, or just say hi, go for it! I’m totally cool with all forms of jokes or remarks, feel free to poke fun at the wonky eye I drew, swear like a sailor or tell me about the time you found a weird lump on your pinkie toe. I really do love people, though I do have a social anxiety disorder and a general predisposition to be a brooding introvert so I apologize if I don’t respond right away. <3

About This Blog:

This blog aims to be a place for me to showcase my art. Perhaps the occasional status update will pop up, but generally I aim to just give you content! No politics, divisive topics or general downers; the internet’s got enough of that as it is. This is a place where you can forget about the world for a bit and (hopefully) just enjoy my art! I don’t reblog to this place and I know that’s awful Tumblr etiquette but it scratches me brain in all the right ways when my page is clean, so all my reblogs are over at @batsylabs. I tend to draw a lot of animals, mainly anthro but some feral. In my works you will hopefully see both my zest for life and my love for the beautiful details of Earth reflected. I think our universe has its own intricate beauty and I like to use the references it gives me to craft strange creatures and fantasy settings that feel just as plausible.

I also draw a lot of fan-art. Like a lot. My favorite right now is Gravity Falls, specifically my @love-triangles-au​, but I have a good deal more!

As of now I focus on digital art, realism/semi-realism for animals and similar styles to the source material in terms of fan-art. In the future I would love to experiment with styles, but I’m rather textbook in my approach to learning and am focused currently on knowing the rules before I break them. I’m deeply passionate about self-expression and believe all art deserves love, from the most abstract of modern arts to the intricate worlds toiled over detail by detail.

Happy New Year, everybody!!

Just posting this cause I've finally committed on a new username. CanisChiroptera was nice but the word "Canis" has no real relevance to me and I want it to be 100%, y'know? This one combines Chiroptera (the order of bats) with ancient saying of my fellow Canadians, "eh". Oh, and the double i's are mostly just to look cool but it's also a subtle nod to the late great Avicii.

Thank you for the warm welcome, Tumblr! So far I’m enjoying my time here a lot and I hope we can have an awesome 2022 together.

It’s that time of the year again!!!

I'm really proud of my progress in 2021, I've become a lot less afraid of painting compared to the past couple, and it's all thanks to sacrificing hyper-detailed pieces for ones that only have what they really need. Happy soon-to-be NYE and screw covid! :D <3

There’s very little fan art of these two but I saw this absolutely adorable piece by cartoon_boom on Twitter of them in winter outfits and I absolutely loved it so I drew them! ...It was supposed to be a sketch.
