So Billie Eilish, a recording artist who makes millions with her creative work, has teamed up with Adobe, a multi-billion company, to bring us a contest where artists make merch designs for her for free, and only the winner gets paid. Sorry, a “prize”. And part of the “prize” is exposure.

Oh, and if you submit an entry, whether you win or not, you give them the right to use your work.

Contests like this are a scam. They’re exploitative. Always. They’re a way to get people to do work for free, and only pay the “winner”.

Billie Eilish makes music. She is a creative professional herself who makes money, a lot of money, with her art. She can afford to pay an artist to design her tour shirt. Adobe can afford to pay artists to do design work.

If she wants to give fans the opportunity to work for her - just invite portfolio submissions. Let artists send you work they’ve already done, pick one whose style you like, and hire them to make a design for you. Easy.

This, though? This is trying to use her fame to get people to work for her for free. This is trying to exploit her fans. Note how the key selling point they picked for the tweet isn’t the cash prize, it’s the exposure. This entire thing is based on the hope that people will be so excited to have their work officially featured by Billie Eilish that they’ll work for free just for the chance.

Don’t enter “art contests” like this. It’s not a contest, it’s a scam.

i’m late to the party but oh wow.

i would like to start this off by saying that 5’10 isn’t tall. at least for american men that’s pretty average, so already johnny wouldn’t be considered “tall” by all means — nor has he ever been. in fact, i would say the opposite is true for him; he’s been written (in Human Torch 2003) to be INSECURE about his average height.

if anyone is taller, you could make the argument that peter is because once before did canon make the mistake of claiming he’s 6 foot. that was a fairly minor adjustment to his original height (5’10) that didn’t go anywhere, and i’m personally fine with that. it’s okay for them to be the same height. maybe even preferred that they are

all fandoms struggle with this issue so i won’t pretend this is exclusive to spideytorch, but i’ve noticed a trend in the way the majority of this community treats both characters — and what i mean by this is too many people plague this ship with heteronormativity. there’s no need to infantilize/feminize either one of them. it’s weird, it’s gross, and it’s time we start treating johnny and peter like the 30 year old men they are.

neither of them are “small beans”. johnny’s former firefighting training wouldn’t have been possible if he was a twink (the process is rigorous), and peter… i mean… why that man shouldn’t be a toothpick SHOULD be self explanatory. LET THESE MEN BE BIG.

(+++ adding my two cents on the “johnny’s built like a supermodel” comment because i’m ultimately a huge johnny fan and have to defend his honor — no. supermodels are almost dangerously skinny because of the way designers make their clothes. again, he wouldn’t have been able to be a firefighter if he was that thin. likewise he wouldn’t be able to carry multiple men around, or ben, or gatecrasher. that man needs muscle that’ll WORK for him because he doesn’t have the advantage of having super strength lmao).

Peter is taller than Johnny. And not cause of the Spider bite or anything. He's always been tall and lanky.
