I’m just so terrified that my children will never be able to experience nature as it is with all the animals and diversity and plants and insects and forests and snow because this generation didn’t wake up.

Living on a self-sustaining farm where you wake up at dawn to do manual labor until well into the afternoon sounds extremely appealing, actually

Why Did I Decide To Use Bamboo Toothbrushes?

Why did I decide to use bamboo toothbrushes?

I’m reducing the use of plastic at home

Bamboo handles are naturally antimicrobial and biodegradable

They are as effective as plastic and electric toothbrushes

They are organic while having good quality and design

Plastic toothbrushes are really difficult to recycle

All plastic toothbrushes you ever used are still out there!

If ur highkey pissed off that eco-activism is constantly written off as reefer hippie bullshit so much so that even the lower class, who would normally benefit from it, are willing to push this false narrative of giving a fuck about the earth being bad or embarassing, all because the capitalists who brainwash them would sooner watch it die than lose a single dollar, and it all makes you sick to your fucking stomach, clap your hands

it’s so funny when capitalists are like Stopping climate change is TOO EXPENSIVE. like money isn’t even fucking real you know what is? Earth and you know what’s about to not be real anymore? Earth

i love seeing how me being vegan is changing the habits of people around me. and i dont just mean people going vegetarian/vegan. just the little things. like how for his birthday my little brother wanted vegan pancakes because he thinks they’re the best. or my mom only eating vegetarian at her work cafeteria. or my dad asking me how to make vegan parmesan.

my veganism has a real and tangible impact on those around me and that gives me so much hope and joy

What is needed are ecosystems that are designed to produce our food, fuel, animal feed, medicine and fibers, and ecosystems that can do so without the use of fossil fuel technology, those that can tolerate extremes of weather and potentially changing climates, and that can thrive without supplemental irrigation from vulnerable and increasingly expensive public utilities.

I Have Arrived In Peru And If There Is One Thing I Have Learned This Week It Is That Zero Waste And Traveling

I have arrived in Peru and if there is one thing I have learned this week it is that zero waste and traveling to not always go together. Last minute shopping, eating out, medications and bottled water have set me back in my waste goals. However, all hope is not lost as I still have found some ways to back on waste that additionally make traveling easier!

Solid shampoo, conditioner, soap, face wash and perfume

Benefits

No spilling in your suitcase

Able to take through security in your carryon

Virtually no waste

Lasts a lot longer since it is concentrated

Takes up much less space then full sized liquid products

Cons

None? (I really love all these products!)

Water bottle

Benefits

Can refill once you’ve gone past security at the airport (no $7 bottles of water at the airport)

Keeps water cold for hot days

Can buy bottled water in bulk and pour into reusable bottle to take with you instead of many small bottles in places where you can not drink the tap water

Cons

You must carry it around with you even when it’s empty

Coconut oil and fabric scraps (used for makeup removal)

Benefits

Extremely cheap

Very effective in removing makeup (the best thing in my opinion)

Natural and very low waste

Cons

Very messy to travel with (high risk of spilling and staining clothing)

Must wash the fabric scraps (difficult to do if you do not have access to a washing machine)

Overall I am glad I was able to cut down on at least some waste in my travel while also making my move easier! If anyone has any other tips for reducing waste when you travel I would love to hear them! :)

TBH saving the planet and the lives of thousands of animals is the best feeling in the world and I wouldn’t change it for mediocre bacon or steak. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Climate change is such a huge problem, that is so underrepresented for the amount of harm it causes. The actual change in the temperature, extreme weather events, change in what we’re able to farm. If we ignore this issue, we’re ignoring the fact that we’re slowly destroying ourselves. We can’t ignore it. Yes, the major issue is big corporations, but we are the demand to their supply. We can make a change. Even little changes is something, it does help. Work to make a difference, work to be aware. Don’t ignore the problem, for the sake of our Earth.

Nondescriptive

Transcript of a video of Grete Thunberg:

“This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school, on the other side of the ocean. Yet, you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you?

You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words, yet I am one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth.

How dare you?”

Afraid of Global Warming? Well, now there’s Galactic Warming from our dear friends, those super-massive black holes lurking just about everywhere a galaxy has sprouted up.

These wacky systems are so extreme as to completely skip out of many generations of new stars, leaving a severe stellar age gap in these galaxies, given an entirely new class called “red geysers”.

Carbon Emissions From Energy Production decreased By 89 Million Metric Tons (MMmt), From 2015 To 2016,

Carbon emissions from energy production decreased by 89 million metric tons (MMmt), from 2015 to 2016, an annual percent change of 1.7%.

The 1.7% drop in emissions occurred despite an increase in real gross domestic product (GDP) of 1.5% over that period. Other factors, most significantly greater use of energy sources (like renewables and natural gas) that emit less carbon dioxide than coal, more than offset the growth in GDP.

Emissions have declined in 6 out of the past 10 years, and energy‐related CO2 emissions in 2016 14% below 2005 levels.

The Sex Of A Sea Turtle Hatching Is Determined By Temperature. Nests Incubated At Cooler Temperatures

The sex of a sea turtle hatching is determined by temperature. Nests incubated at cooler temperatures produce more males, while nests incubated at warmer temperatures produce more females.

This could be a problem with climate change. As global temperatures rise, nests will be incubated at higher temperatures, producing fewer males. As this study found, climate change could lead to turtle nests with few to no males, skewing sex ratios and endangering the persistence of sea turtle populations. As the authors note:

“[O]nce incubation temperatures are 35°C, there are almost no more males produced (1 per 50 000 eggs laid)... As turtles return to the rough neighbourhood of their natal breeding grounds, it seems likely that for populations already producing more than 80% females, there will be a real extinction risk if they continue to nest at the same time of year and conditions warm by a few degrees.”

But the bigger issue may be the increasing number of unviable eggs with rising temperatures. As the authors claim:

“[T]he primary concern in scenarios of climate change and rising incubation temperatures [is]... the high hatchling mortality in excessively warm nests...While climate warming still poses a threat to sea turtles, it is not the skewed sex ratios per se that will threaten population survival but rather higher mortality within clutches.”

Earth Mother.

Earth Mother.

©Robin Fifield 2023.

If we consider the metaphorical idea of Earth as a mother carrying an unborn New World, it suggests taking actions to support a sustainable and thriving future for our planet. Here are some ways you can contribute to that vision:

1. Environmental Stewardship: Embrace a mindset of responsibility and care for the environment. Recognize that our actions impact the Earth and strive to be a responsible steward of its resources.

2. Sustainable Lifestyle Choices: Make conscious choices in your daily life that reduce your ecological footprint. This includes adopting sustainable practices like conserving water and energy, reducing waste, and choosing eco-friendly products.

3. Conservation and Restoration: Engage in efforts to protect and restore natural habitats. Support organizations that work towards conservation, reforestation, and wildlife preservation.

4. Climate Action: Recognize the urgency of addressing climate change. Advocate for policies and practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote renewable energy, and transition to a low-carbon economy.

5. Education and Awareness: Spread knowledge and raise awareness about environmental issues. Educate others about the importance of sustainability, biodiversity, and the interconnectedness of ecosystems.

6. Support Environmental Initiatives: Contribute to organizations and initiatives dedicated to environmental causes. This can involve donating funds, volunteering your time, or supporting campaigns and projects that aim to protect the environment.

7. Sustainable Agriculture and Food Choices: Support local and organic farmers, choose sustainably sourced and ethically produced food, reduce food waste, and consider adopting a plant-based or reduced-meat diet.

8. Responsible Consumption: Be mindful of your purchasing decisions. Prioritize durable, ethically produced, and environmentally friendly products. Avoid single-use items and opt for reusable alternatives.

9. Community Engagement: Get involved in local environmental projects, community gardens, or clean-up efforts. Collaborate with others to create positive change at the grassroots level.

10. Political Engagement: Stay informed about environmental policies and engage with your elected representatives. Voice your concerns and support candidates who prioritize environmental sustainability.

Chat GPT + Robin Fifield 2023.

Remember that each individual action, no matter how small, contributes to the collective effort of building a sustainable future. By working together, we can help "Earth Mother" carry her unborn New World to term and ensure a healthy and thriving planet for future generations.

So as of July 9th, the Trump Administration has overturned environmental protection laws in Alaskan reserves, which includes allowing:

use bait including donuts and grease-soaked bread to draw in and kill brown bears;

use artificial lights to enter dens and kill black bears, including females and their cubs;

shoot caribou while they are swimming; and

trap and kill wolves and their pups during denning season

here’s one petition I’ve found about this, and I’ll be looking for more resources. Please circulate this so this information is well-known, because they’ve been sneakily messing with a LOT of environmental laws and practices

Remember people, yes being environmentally conscious is important as an individual. But the individual isn't the issue, it's the billion dollar corporations that are ruining our world. So next time you feel bad about not buying that expensive, more environmentally conscious product, remember billionaires have incomprehensible carbon footprints. Do what you can but the responsibility isn't just yours
