Quick sketch Yurio 20yrs
because Yuuri's reaction here is a result of his anxiety disorder and his tendency to self-deprecation and having depressive thoughts. That he ends up here is being carefully foreshadowed throughout the series:
First, Viktor said a couple of things that made Yuuri believe that Viktor only wants to coach him until the GPF:
This
and this
is enough to convince and anxious person like Yuuri that Viktor has no intention to coach him beyond the GPF. Note that Viktor never explicitly states that he will coach Yuuri only for the first half of the season - it's the natural conclusion an anxious brain will draw. And that's neither Viktor's nor Yuuri's fault.
And then this, while Yuuri is within hearing distance:
I'm getting a queasy feeling in my stomach just from watching this scene because I relate to Yuuri so much. If I had eavesdropped on this interview, I would have freaked out internally. Like what does that even mean? Is he talking about his career or is this a carefully crafted answer to convince the press to leave him and Yuuri alone for the next couple of weeks? This secret is probably between Viktor and the YOI creators alone (I have theories, but I'm not going to discuss them here because this post is about Yuuri).
Second, although he becomes more confident throughout the show, the self-deprecating part of Yuuri has a low opinion about his own skating. From his perspective, his contribution to the sport seems less valuable than Viktor's, even when he starts to understand that he's far more than a dime-a-dozen skater. The realisation that he is as least as talented as Viktor, only drives home the moment he breaks Viktor's world record.
Because Yuuri has such a low opinion of himself, he doesn't understand how much Viktor enjoys watching him skate, which is another aspect factoring into his decision.
Third, Yuuri genuinely believes that Viktor wants to return to the ice and would rejoice when Yuuri retires. Having seen Viktor watch the other skaters at the GPF cements the decision he made at the Rostelecom Cup. The fact that basically everyone has told him throughout the last 11 episodes that he's keeping Viktor from skating gives more weight to the idea.
Yes, you got that right. Yuuri deided to retire, before he proposed to Viktor and before he bought two matching rings and put one of them on Viktor's finger. However, now Yuuri knows that Viktor would coach him for as long as Yuuri wants to keep skating, which forces him to release Viktor from his duties at the point he believes Viktor wanted to stop coaching him initially.
"Let's end this" is not about breaking up. Yuuri is releasing Viktor as his coach. He is sacrificing his career so that Viktor can keep pursuing his own career which Viktor once sacrificed for him.
Of course he's surprised that Viktor bursts out in tears.
Yuuri has the right to retire whenever he wants. He doesn't need to consult Viktor. If he thinks (for whichever stupid reason) it's time, he can make this decision on his own.
Is it selfish?
Lol no. Only Viktor thinks it is because he's conflating the coach and the partner and takes it personally. He's hurt and feels rejected because he doesn't understand that Yuuri did it for him and that causes a drama Yuuri was not prepared for.
Is it stupid?
Absolutely. But poor communication skills, Yuuri is too caught up in his mental issues to even think of having a discussion that would lead them to a solution with which both would be happy (both training in St. Petersburg *wink* *wink*). It's not malice, insensitivity, or shitty behaviour that drives Yuuri to this point. It's all about his mental issues. And love.
Still a WIP and might delete this later because there are so much more details to add (Yuuri's hairrrr) but it's looking good so far 💗⚡️⚡️⚡️

Well, I fulfilled a crossover with the two things I love the most: Yuri On Ice and Resident Evil 💗⚡️⚡️⚡️ AND FEELS FREAKING AMAZING. Might repeat it next year, just to see how much I’ve improved. And because who else will give you this strange crossover, than me? ✨🫢

I’m drawing the new poster/fanart for Stamps & Sleepless Nights. 🌙
⚡️A little on my creative process: in trad art I feel more in my element. In this case it’s going to be a complex illustration so I decided to refine on color. I used a blue Prismacolor (ran out of nano-dia erasable leads for my mechanical pencil) and starting doing really fast shapes for the body structures. I wanted have the position first, then create the anatomical perspective of the characters and made some really basic details. For this first sketch, my main goal was to have defined the position and some detail on the hair that is defined by position, too. On my next rounds (some still in this sheet, other rounds on a new paper) I’ll clean up everything more and add some more details.
I’m thinking about doing a trad art version and a digital one⚡️
I wanted to take today off the computer, been going through ups and downs with writing for the past weeks. When I think my inspiration it’s better, it’s not…and it doesn’t help reading certain stuff. So thought it would be better drawing traditionally and listen to music ✌️✨✨✨

With an engagement arranged behind his back, Emperor Victor only wishes to have one last day for himself as a free man.
But the last thing he will be is free, once he meets someone who seems to have the exact same plans, and perhaps motivations, for today.
In Fire, In Whispers by @voxofthevoid [M, 12K]
“What do you think he meant by friendly stabbing?” Viktor asks, deceptively casual as he winds a lock of his hair around his finger.
“Sparring, probably.”
“Ah,” Viktor sighs, his disappointment loud and theatrical. “And here I thought he meant the other kind.”
Yuuri feels himself heat to the roots of his hair.
“Not here,” he snaps, hands clenching at his sides.
Viktor’s eyes sharpen, the veneer of pleasantness finally leaving his face.
“My mistake,” he says, his smile thin and icy. “You seem tired, Prince Yuuri. Let me escort you to your bedchambers.”

Yuuri Katsuki has been betrothed to the High King's son, Victor, since he was just a child; furthermore, as an omega, he's forbidden from practicing magic in combat. For years, he's been able to put off the former because the Prince was traveling abroad, and gotten around the latter by practicing with his mentor in secret.
Now Victor Nikiforov has finally returned home, and Yuuri is being summoned to the capital for their wedding. He needs a plan to put off marriage long enough to find a way to break the betrothal, while keeping his practicing from being discovered.

Everyone knows tales of princesses trapped in towers and guarded by evil dragons, but, actually…
Yuuri is here by choice, thank you very much, and Phichit is quite a nice dragon, all things considered. It’s just that the knights who keep trying to rescue him don’t seem to be getting the memo.
And then there’s Sir Nikiforov, just another knight like the rest, except that he’s not. Because after he realizes that Yuuri is not, in fact, in need of rescuing, he drops it. And stranger still, he decides to stay.

When investigative journalist Viktor Nikiforov discovers the Crown Prince of Japan on a park bench in Saint Petersburg, he thinks that he’s found his ticket to redemption at the magazine he writes for. Roses of May by @cuttlemefishwrites [E, 47K] *WIP
At age five, all children are assessed for talent and beauty in the City of Hasetsu and the other eight cities of the Empire. Every year, five are branded with the mark of a rose before being carded off to the Emperor’s palace where they are trained to become Roses, or sacrifices to be sent every May to the Ice Spirit that lives in the castle at the top of the mountain. Roses never return, except for Katsuki Yuuri, who shocks the Empire when he appears again two years after his departure with a silver crown on his head and a blond baby in his arms, demanding the Emperor step down or face the wrath of his husband, the Ice King. But, not everything is what it seems.
The Dragon Prince and the Winter Son by @sophia-helix [E, 121K]
Yuuri Stark is a noble son of the north, returning to Winterfell in disgrace after the latest disappointment in his checkered tourney career. He hasn't given up his dream of becoming a knight, but maybe it's time to find himself a new path, settling down at home.
Prince Victor Targaryen is the greatest swordsman in Westeros, but he no longer finds joy in competition. Things are uneasy in King's Landing, where politics are shifting and dangerous, and he seizes the chance to escape north in search of the young man who came so close to beating him in a tourney last year — and was so beguiling at the banquet afterwards.
Together they begin a journey to the great tourney of Harrenhal, with intrigue, honor, friendship and love along the way...and inevitable political conflict ahead.

Yuuri is a tech genius working in Silicon Valley, but he never would have gotten this far if not for the support of the Russian Royal family who offered him a full scholarship to the elite Rostelecom Academy and have been supporting his education ever since. Of course, this help didn’t come for free. He’s now considered a member of the Royal family, which isn’t so bad, other than the inordinate number of weddings he has to attend. There’s also the small stipulation that he is technically a candidate to become the Prince’s consort, but that’ll never happen…

As chief communications officer on board the Interstellar Alliance Fleet’s Star Ship Victory, Yuuri doesn’t have to think about who he actually is on his home planet. Well. Two out of three’s not bad.
Then his mother calls with the worst possible news: She, the Empress of New Nihon, has arranged Yuuri’s marriage.
There’s only one thing Yuuri can do: Fake a boyfriend, and fake one fast. Who better/worse to play that role than the friend he wishes was more? What can go wrong? It’s not like Yuuri can fall more in love...

“Do you think he’ll let you get a picture with him?” Phichit’s voice comes through distorted by the long chain of communications systems and the great distance between them.
“I imagine some official photos might be taken,” Yuuri offers.
“You should try to work ‘I became a translator because of you!’ into conversation. You know, casually.”
Yuuri takes a large sip from his mug of tea, refusing to be baited. “We’ll see.”

unimportant tid bit but I made this blog to post about yoi but then April 18th happened so yeah🫂

I got a birthday gift from @impatvish and I'm absolutely in love with it. Pat, you're such a sweet friend. I'm so grateful to know you. I love you.
Vitya is sad 😭
Based on this post
The phone cases of the skaters in YoI most often reflect something they care about, as we see with Yuuri’s poodle case and Phichit’s hamster one.
Viktor’s phone case is his Stammi Vicino outfit.
Because that routine is so recent, we know his phone case is relatively new. And from the images of him at the Sochi banquet, we know his phone case at that point was bright yellow. This means that Viktor ordered a phone case that represented Stammi Vicino — a routine that was important enough that he wanted to carry around a piece of it with him everyday.
Stammi Vicino is about longing for that life and love Viktor hasn’t had. It’s about his own loneliness and his frustration with his situation. At what point do you think he ordered that phone case? When did he decide that he needed a memento from it even once he had moved on to a new season? He didn’t have enough time to get a new case after seeing the video of Yuuri, so it had to be a choice he made based on his own interpretation of the routine. We even see him watching Yuuri’s video on a phone already bearing the case.
I like to think he got it after the Sochi GPF. After he had a wild, champagne-coated night, and realized that there were more important things than medaling at competition after competition. Stammi Vicino may have been something he skated, but it was about his life outside of skating — a phone case that connects his career with his feelings about his future would be the perfect ever-present reminder to begin making a life outside of the ice rink.
I wish I could draw all my favourite scenes from the Harry Potter AU fic Entwining Fates! Yuuri being Ravenclaw makes sense to me and I love that his Patronus is a Japanese crane.
Belatedly realising that Russia canonically has its own wizarding school (Koldovstoretz) but until Rowling fleshes it out a bit more - if ever - I guess for most writers Team Russia stays in Durmstrang.
EDIT: Because I keep seeing people whispering that Yuuri shouldn’t be in Hogwarts but Mahoutokoro ^^”. In the fic, he WAS originally in Mahoutokoro but things happen (it would be a huge spoiler) and he has to be transferred to Hogwarts. All right, I hope that clears it up.
“Gazing up at the cherry tree, Yuuri was radiant in violet robes and a golden-yellow sash as he stood in a swirl of pink blossoms. Viktor wished he had a camera then; to preserve Yuuri’s unassuming beauty and keep it with him: under his jacket, close to his heart.”

I’m still obsessing over Zanka by the wonderful @dreaming-fireflies, so instead of working on deadline things, my brain wanted to doodle Yuuri/Aoyagi from her fic instead. 8D
Amazingly, the Japanese font I used here was written by “Aoyagi Kouzan” - it was meant to be!
An absolutely gorgeous commission by the talented @tosquinha (Seriously, I can’t stop looking at it.)
Based on my fic, Zanka - a Victuuri historical AU in 1800s, Edo, Japan. Yuuri is Aoyagi, a high-ranking male courtesan, and Viktor falls hopelessly in love.
The scene is from chapter one:
As the translator turned once more, Viktor returned his gaze to the courtesan. The man was idly fingering the length of his pipe as he listened to the translator’s words. Despite his soft features, there was a sharpness to him, an edge, as though life had him honed into a beautiful, double-edged sword. Viktor felt his insides churn; buried under all those luxurious robes was a young man who probably never knew a world beyond the red lights of Yoshiwara.

Will do more and of course quick sketches for Prince Vitya that would be 11 when they meet.

Art based on this post
Yuuri very likely didn't intend to propse to Viktor at the airport but his heart knew what it (and he) truly desired and twisted his words into a proposal—or rather something akin to a proposal that resulted in a spontaneous engagement.
Let's unpack this.
Yuuri returns from the Rostelecom Cup with his mind full of things that he wants to tell Viktor. While we don't learn the details, his inner monologue in the previous scene gives us a good idea of the things he's mulling over.
Yuuri has convinced himself that Viktor will abandon him after the Grand Prix Final. Thus, that competition is his final chance to win gold and he's determined to fulfil the promise he made in his speech in ep. 5 and win that medal. But even if doesn't win gold, there is one thing that he feels he needs to do after seeing skaters and skating fans react to Viktor becoming a coach at two consecutive competitions.
Regardless of how much Yuuri has profited from Viktor's support, he is very conscious about the fact that Viktor belongs to the ice. Or at least that is what his anxious brain has convinced him of. In this sense, giving up his own career so that Viktor can resume his own is an act of love and the only possible solution for them to stay together (in Yuuri's brain).
We never learn about the end of Yuuri's contemplation, but the subtext of the next scene implies that breaking up with Viktor is not an option. Or if it was an option, it was off the table once he was back in Viktor's arms.
Since Yuuri has anxiety, it's safe to assume that he has been overthinking his talk with Viktor over and over during the flight, going through all kinds of scenarios based on Viktor's imagined reaction. After hours on the plane, his brain must have been on the verge of exploding, casting poor Yuuri into a state of total overwhelm. If you have anxiety, you can possibly relate.
However, the moment that he spots Viktor, his mind goes blank and instinct takes over as he runs into Viktor's arms and instead of whatever speech he has prepared, he just blurts out the following line:
僕も考えてた。引退まで 僕のこと— お願いします! "I've been thinking, too. Please take care of me until I retire!"
The English translation is a bit messed up here. In the original, Yuuri never uses the word coach in that line. "Please take care of me" is Japanese proposal language. The translators probably didn't recognise this nuance and sadly, the nuance is still lost in the Bluray version.
But that's why Viktor recognises the proposal in Yuuri's words.
However, based on the details given and the illogical ways anxious brains work, Yuuri intended to inform Viktor about his retirement plans and to voice his desire to make the most of the little time he thinks they have left. But that's not what his heart wants. And since episode 5 we know what that is:
初めて自分から繋ぎとめたいと思った人、それがヴィクトルです
A more accurate translation of that line is "The first person I want to tie myself to and never let go is Viktor" because 繋ぎとめたい means wanting to tie someone / something to you and never let it go (see this translation error masterpost).
Of course, Yuuri doesn't want his relationship with Viktor to end and no matter if his anxiety his skyrocketing in the face of the GPF looming ahead, that desire has taken root in his heart and brain. However, his anxiety stops him from proposing actually and turns his addition "until I retire" into a gentle prodding to find out whether he and Viktor are on the same page.
And of coruse, they are.
And it's all Yuuri has wished for. He's been anxious the whole time. Until Viktor recognises the proposal and response with a yes in the same fashion that Yuuri has asked.
To wrap all of this up:
Absence nurtures desire and in this case, the time apart has shown Yuuri and Viktor how much they want to be by each other's side. Because he missed Viktor so desperately, Yuuri's heart wins over his anxiety for once and enables him to tell Viktor his deepest desire. By recognising said desire, Viktor is able to accept the proposal and the two boys are now officially engaged. And that's yet another beautiful aspect about this show.
Unfortunately Viktor didn't really catch the part about the retirement, which will result in him thinking that Yuuri wants to break up when Yuuri announces his retirement plans in Barcelona. On the other hand, knowing that Viktor wants to stay by his side forever is a huge relief for Yuuri and allows him to enter the GPF without any emotional baggage.
Bonus: look at that cute tiny smile right between Viktor recognising the proposal and the second hug.

Hi! I’m that person who wrote that post with the lost-in-translation innuendo from episode 6. After that, some people said they want to know about the rest of the ‘lost in translation stuff’ from the rest of the episodes……so, hey, I’m crazy, so I went and did it.
This post aims to collect and explain as many translation errors, emphasis changes and things that just can’t make it through the language barrier as possible from the Yuri on Ice official subs, through episodes 1-6.
I want to preface this by saying that I have the utmost respect for Crunchyroll translators. Theirs is a tough job : parsing everything by ear, running on tight deadlines, having no context for future episodes and needing to make sure everything sounds like a real conversation. It’s hard, and I don’t envy them their jobs.
But even the best translators could make mistakes.
Let’s get started, shall we? Episode 1’s going to be a little dry, but rest assured that there are some juicy, tasty stuff down the line in further episodes! This is also going to be very long, so please bear with me. A short count of issues :
Episode 1 - 17 issues Episode 2 - 15 issues Episode 3 - 9 issues Episode 4 - 23 issues Episode 5 - 26 issues (!!!!!)<– this one is important Episode 6 - 20 issues (This is going for maximum accuracy, so there will be some splitting hair and some throwing conversational flow to the winds when it becomes necessary.)
Episode 1
The subs translated this line into present perfect tense, but it’s actually in the past perfect tense. Correct version : Ever since I first saw his skating, it had been an unending chain of surprises.
You know, in case we don’t have enough ‘describe Victor in the past tense’ things to freak out about!
The subs missed a word here, simplified the sentence and removed the tiny personal touch of the announcer to make it more like English language sports commentary. The announcer also described Victor’s skating, not just the state of his competition. The original line is 「いや、フリーも驚異な強さで圧倒しました!」(いや means 'no’, but in cases like this it’s often used to show awe at something you half-expect anyway.) When you add the missing bits back in, the line would be like : I’ll be damned, he also crushed the FS with a miraculously strong performance!
'Seems to lay such rumors to rest’ is a rather mild way to put what the announcer is saying. He sounds quite excited in the Japanese commentary, but that’s not how English sports commentary works, so….anyway, the original line is 「そんな噂を吹き飛ばすかのような圧巻の滑りでした」, which would make the whole sentence ’Some speculated that he might retire this season, but that was a masterful performance to blow any such rumors out of the water!’
The actual meaning doesn’t change much, but the emphasis has been shifted quite a ways.
Throughout the entire series, Victor is depicted showing his affection for Yuuri very publicly.
A few examples of this being...
When Victor hugged Yuuri from behind in front of the entire audience at the CSK championship.
When Victor got completely drunk and started hanging off of Yuuri in front of everyone before the Cup of China, and had absolutely no complaints about the picture Phichit posted of them.
When Victor wrapped his arms around Yuuri's waist while resting his head on his shoulder in front of the other skaters at the Cup of China
When Victor kissed him in front of thousands of people on live television at the Cup of China.
When Victor publicly announced their engagement the rest of the gpf skaters + the others around them who were also there to witness it in Barcelona.
Must I go on?
Moral of the story is, he's so proud of being able to love Yuuri that he doesn't even care about his title as the 'living legend of figure skating' who went off to coach some 'dime a dozen' Japanese figure skater. He doesn't let the possibility of backlash affect the way he shows his partner his love, and he doesn't care about what anyone else has to say about their relationship but the two of them, and I think that's such an amazingly healthy aspect about their relationship that just isn't talked about enough.
It says so much about Victor as a character. It shows that Yuuri is so much more than just his student, fellow competitor, or fan. He sees Yuuri as his equal, and as someone worthy of showing off and taking care of. He loves Yuuri enough to put him above his title, and to sacrifice his competitive skating career for him. He refers to Yuuri as his life and his love, and was absolutely devastated at the idea of Yuuri not needing him as his coach anymore.
He loves Yuuri more than words, and everyday I grow even more upset that we never got to see more of them.
