*sigh* Something Something The Two-dimensionality Of Saeru's Characterisation Is A Writing Flaw, Not

*sigh* something something the two-dimensionality of saeru's characterisation is a writing flaw, not a feature, and trying to pass it off as a feature whilst berating anyone who sees it as a flaw is uh. A Choice

txt ☆ˎˊ˗ i promise like we all know jin's writing isn't exactly stellar kgpr got popular because of the characterisation of the Protagonists but jin writes saeru poorly. I've never believed otherwise he only really tried to do something interesting with the character in the manga... but saeru was always more of a symbol. which is Boring but again not the Main Point of kgpr so it's not a big deal but that isn't to say that making saeru interesting weakens the narrative??? just that the story functions without him being overly complex and stuff some of themes however are so Fucked by his character it's so sad could write a whole essay about how shit the whole idea of monsterhood becomes when saeru is presented the way he is outside of the manga that entire spiel seto has about “real monsters” in novel 8 is so eugh I'd love to pretend that's just his perspective but it's so clearly word of god I also feel like shutting down arguments in favour of deeper characterisation with “well he's a metaphor for trauma” inadvertently oversimplifies trauma I have more to say but I'm tiredddd not tagging and shit because I don't want people in my notes arguing with a wall idc if you like your saeru simple I just hate the fact that people frame it as right/wrong thing I think when people complain about complex saeru weakening the narrative they're more so annoyed that some fans want to give him the same sort of complexity the protags have like I promise you I'm not trying to turn him into a hero here lol I just think jin couldn't write him very well and there are things to explore with the little things jin Did write idk why the concept of even thinking about those things annoys some people sm “he's a murderer” he's a narrative tool within a story. some guys in a corner brainrotting over him won't make Your blorbos less interestin or make his actions widely justified/glorified

thinking about how each line in "in hell we live, lament" could link to each sinner and how yi sang would be "if you wanted me to speak (why'd you make my voice stutter?)" and how in the wings the protagonist suspects his wife has been giving him sleeping meds instead of painkillers and how faust notes that yi sang's not usually that quiet and that it's a recent development and. Yeah,

reblog But I digress limbus company agh one time I saw someone call meursault and don father and daughter and it made me want to break several things don quixote had a grown-ass niece in the book she is At Least in her late 40s I will not hear otherwise (meanwhile meursault is like. 20-something LOL he's described as a young man at least) sinclair's infantilisation is a product of his immaturity which is literally the point of his book it's literally a bildungsroman so of Course he'll have growing to do but that doesn't make him a kid!! god in fact I'd argue viewing sinclair as a child takes away the impact of his character arc his character is already a “twist” on the original book with his inability to confess his sins to his family and everything it only makes sense that he wouldn't be able to “grow up” naturally in the book his entire experience with kromer is something he deals with at like. age 11 and his actual descent into the “realm of darkness” is sort of something he does later down the line due to other forces limbus sinclair is forcibly pulled into this realm of darkness much later in his life and much more violently making him more sheltered and making his reaction to the darkness more severe thus the fact that he's grown up now but still acts immature is Crucial in understanding him infantilising him completely goes against that because now you're saying that he doesn't know any better but he should!! that's the point!! if he was still a kid his arc wouldn't have as much meaning it wouldn't be Half as tragic or interesting tbf I think demian referring to “adults” and distinguishing himself from them probably compounds this issue but that's a little prince thing... being an adult is more so a Mindset through that book's lens rather than a matter of age also the fact that sinclair's a rich kid and it's brought up constantly is also crucial because it shows just How disconnected the upper class in the city are from suffering sinclair being a grownass guy with a childish immaturity is important because it shows that not only does the city feed on suffering it's not even that beneficial to the people that that suffering ought to benefit

on december 9th, there is a wisconsin all out for palestine rally in madison. i really encourage anyone who is in this state and has the means to travel to madison to show up for this especially as more people are showing "fatigue" for the palestinian cause and social media posts dwindle.

if you're in milwaukee, the local chapter of JVP is arranging transportation help if you dont have a car and the badger bus is also a relatively inexpensive and convenient option, it runs multiple times per day and will take you about 30 mins walking or a quick uber trip to the capital if you select the 'campus and lake' stop.

p.s. i know madison in general is pretty milquetoast + white liberal-y, but the activism and rallies for palestine specifically lately have been extremely well organized, meaningful, actually leftist and abolitionist, calling for more than a ceasefire, and led by/centered palestinian-americans & other SWANA organizers.

i feel like gregors roach traits could be read as allegories for PTSD/trauma. obviously the way he got them was a very traumatic experience, but i wanna focus on the war shit and the other genetically modified veterans we see. Like how he grows more buggy when he gets really stressed, and the more traumatized he gets the less physically human he becomes (because trauma dehumanizes you!!). and when he survives the war and tries to live a normalish life, the one thing that keeps it from happening is his cockroach arm. It won’t go away, even if he tries to cut it off, and it lashes out indiscriminately much to his scorn and resentment. like that scene in the subway where it attacks that woman seemed to be followed by mentions of the war and thoughts of it on greg’s part. I also think that the way gregor and all the other insectoid smoke war vets who turned to enkephalin (can’t say i blame them:( ) couldn’t get their lives back and were used and thrown away is like obvs a statement on how the govt/war machine/military industrial complex treats (disabled, but that’s another text post for another time) veterans. not to mention the fact that gregor explained they were operated on without their consent!! gregor and co are seen as disposable, disgusting insects who are less than human. i also think there’s something to be said about the fact that he’s a cockroach specifically. yes, they’re viewed as gross, disgusting pests but they’re also survivors. no matter how disgusting people think they are they don’t die in water and they can literally survive decapitation. also like the way trauma makes you feel so disgusting and tainted and like how your own mind and body don’t belong to you. he can’t look at him own arm/body without remembering that his own mother decided to surgically experiment on him… he consistently talks down on himself for being a roach human hybrid or whatever. he makes me so sad. the way other people treat him like he’s gross too like omfg it makes me sooo mad. he has endured so much dehumanization on so many different fronts :( i hope he has a good support system. anyways i like gregor hes a dilf cockroach milking
