They are not medically accurate, just enough for artists to know the necessary muscles and how they work together

I 100% recommend doing the last exercise I did to be able to actually place the muscles

“Someone can be madly in love with you and still not be ready. They can love you in a way you have never been loved and still not join you on the bridge. And whatever their reasons you must leave. Because you never ever have to inspire anyone to meet you on the bridge. You never ever have to convince someone to do the work to be ready. There is more extraordinary love, more love that you have never seen, out here in this wide and wild universe. And there is the love that will be ready.”

PLS This Is Assault I’m Screaming 😭💀💀

PLS this is assault I’m screaming 😭💀💀

The depth and important messaging and often overlooked nuance in these subjects that Azie Tesfai brought to tonight’s Supergirl… bravo. Genuinely amazing.

By the way… the little girl. The Kelly/Alex convo. And the hair moment. Powerful.

The ep was beautifully written and executed. Alas it was also a frustrating reminder of what the show could and should have always been (and at one point was), if handled with more care by people who truly understood the characters and stories and messaging that they tried to touch on but instead so often misfired or took the silly, superficial, or even at times outright offensive route for.

Speaking of, that promo gave me whiplash. I went from tears in my eyes and feeling intense awe to making a wtf face and shaking my head, right back to my usual annoyance. Can’t believe I’m saying it but no promo would’ve been better than that promo, after that incredible episode.

Anyway, back to what matters most right now: Azie Tesfai, everybody. 👏

Babe Wake Up Warrior Nun Is Back

Why do you not like the Korrasami/Supercorp comparisons?

There's a handful of reasons, but the biggest would be the difference in culture/race and also the circumstances of the creation process of the two series.

I personally have had too many debates with people about Asami and other ATLA/TLOK characters being POC. Honestly it still baffles me that people believe that most of the characters are white and continue to believe this. This is also present in a handful of Asami/Lena comparisons and Korrasami/Supercorp comparisons. Obviously not all posts are like this, but a good amount are either explicitly or implicitly implying that Asami is a white woman. So often media will whitewash characters and the public will be vocal about a black person being whitewashed. But when an Asian character is whitewashed or racebent, there isn't as much vocal outcry. This can be seen in a handful of movie and series adaptations of Asian source material. So when people specifically compare the two characters and say that Katie McGrath would be the perfect Asami, I personally find it extremely problematic.

Another issue overall between the Korrasami = Supercorp idea is that people are often taking two women of color and plopping them down into an, honestly, stereotypical white world where there is a lack of POC and culture (I haven't watched past season 3 so this could have changed in some way). Korra and Asami break so many molds when it comes to POC stereotypes, that it's really difficult personally to see them compared to characters that come from the Supergirl Universe.

Finally the idea of "will supergirl writers have the guts to do this..." is so stomach turning. The Legend of Korra came out in 2012 and aired its last episode in 2014. In 2014 same sex marriage was not legal across the USA. It wasn't until midway through 2015 that it became legal. This means that the writing for Korrasami needed to be done in very specific ways to even be broadcasted through Nickelodeon. When it comes to Supergirl, there are no limitations like that, only the producers/executives and even the cast. So to even think that the Supergirl writers needed to "pull a Korrasami", the queerbaiting, and the problematic comments that some of the Supergirl cast have made in the past is honestly really disappointing and furthers my dislike of the two series, characters, and couple being compared.

Yes we can look at similarities of the characters' circumstances and personalities, but this is surface level. If we get down to the nitty gritty and really delve into the nuances of Korrasami = Supercorp, there are a lot of underlying issues.

I would just like to remind the sideline refs:

Please explain warrior nun to me. I wasn’t interested at first but you make it seem so cool I want to learn :)

I WILL explain it to you. Saddle up because I'm prepared to ramble. There will be spoilers. If you'd like another summary w/o spoilers, let me know!

First: our main character, Ava Silva. At the start of the show, she's a paraplegic and orphaned 19 year-old girl who is, quite literally, dead in the first scene. She is snarky, a little clueless but not innocent, and most importantly, she wants more than anything to live.

image

This is Sister Beatrice!!! She's the love interest, technically, but she's not the only one (just more of an important character than the other), and she's also so much more than that. She is a prodigious warrior who fights for the OCS; The Order of the Cruciform Sword, which is a sect of Catholic nuns that fight demons for the good of the people. She is good at everything with the exception of Not Being Gay, which is, incidentally, the reason she was sent to a Catholic boarding school in the first place. Suffice to say, her parents suck.

image

There's also a wide cast of incredible characters; we have (from right to left) Mary, who is The Coolest and also, somehow, more of an older sister figure than the actual sisters; Lilith, who's a bit of a bitch but we still love her, Father Vincent, who's also a bit of a bitch but we tolerate him, and then on the far left, there's Camila, who is simultaneously the Cutest and also the Smartest. (also not pictured here is Mother Superion, whom we also love.)

This show has so many good women characters. You will become obsessed with at least one of them. At least.

Essentially, Warrior Nun's plot depends on the use of the Halo, which is a literal Angel's Halo (or is it?) that fuses itself to the spine of one special nun, the Warrior Nun, who is then given the ability to see demons and also other various superpowers. However, because of its immense power, demons and other forces are constantly trying to seize the Halo for themselves, and due to a tragic series of events, a panicked nun has to give Ava the Halo.

Ava, who is dead at the time.

And it brings her back to life. Not only that, but it gives her the ability to walk for the first time since she was, like, four years old. Also, it gives her superpowers, too, but whatever.

So basically, Warrior Nun is about Ava trying to balance her will to live her life now alongside with the new duties that the OCS are trying to put on her. They can't take the Halo out, because it may kill her. Something something jesus parallels, something something taking the time to have the characters work things out for themselves, and you get this show. I cannot emphasize enough the character writing.

(Also it has one of the best sapphic slowburns I've seen in a show ever. They hit so many good tropes in such a well-paced manner. I can't even describe how well they're written. What the fuck.)

So. Watch Warrior Nun. We need a season 3!!
