for the record, qsmp replacing the update admins with a bot that literally just tweets "so and so is live on the qsmp" or possibly a guy that tweets "so and so is live on the qsmp" is Good Actually.

like okay so the ideal solution here is obviously the update admins all get hired back at minimum $20/hr with full benefits and also they hire Even More update admins so that there's enough to keep up with streamers' insane schedules without anyone getting overworked.

but uh. that's not gonna happen. we cannot get that solution. the studio simply does not have the money to make that happen.

so that leaves us with two options: either we get the update admins back without pay (bad, demonstrably impossible without exploiting humans) or we get a much simpler and more pared down version of their job done by a cheap ass bot (not ideal but entirely possible to do without exploiting humans)

and what about the fact that the update admins said they were fine with working as volunteers as long as the conditions improved? well, that's not on the table anymore and it hasn't been since the news went public. when you have a union threatening to sue over volunteers being used as disguised workers, then either people have to get paid for the work they do or they have to stop doing the work they can't be paid for. the fact that you want to do the work doesn't make it ethical for the studio to ask you to do it.

AU in which all Pepito wants is for Pepito’s dad to start smiling again. Pepito knows that Apa Roier is a HUGE fan of Spider-Man, aka Quesadilla City’s most popular superhero, but he’s been real sad since Spider-Man stopped hero-ing a couple months ago when his rival and WORST ENEMY Black Cat disappeared. And Pepito just wants Roier to be happy, so Pepito’s just gotta find Spider-Man and make him a hero again! (And maybe Pepito can get his autograph, because Spider-Man is Pepito’s favorite hero too!!!)
