How To Fall In Love With Writing

Some of us are new, some of us are in a rough patch, but we all want to write, so here’s how to fall in love with it, for the first time or all over again.

Build a personal relationship with it. Make it a part of your lifestyle and your being. Start a journal or simply start writing something every day. It can be small, like a poem, a short journal entry, a description of what you did that day, a rant, a confession, anything you want. Just get used to depending on writing.

Turn everything you write into something beautiful, even if it’s your grocery list. Write in your nicest handwriting, write deep and interesting descriptions of everything around you, turn the world around you into poetry. It changes your mindset and that is one of the biggest parts of being a writer.

Involve the people you care about. Have your friends, partner, collegues, family, etc. read your work and help to encourage you. If your writing is not only a positive in yours, but your loved ones’ lives, it adds that extra bit of motivation as well.

Turn it into a routine. Make time every day to write and devote your attention to it. It’s important to let go of everything around you for even only a few minutes a day and enjoy yourself while you write. Do it for 10 minutes before you go to sleep, when you wake up, when you’re stuck in a cab, when you’re on the bus ride home, when you’re cooking dinner, etc.

Think of it as a hobby, and not a task on your to-do list. If you forget to write one day because of your busy schedule or because you’re just too tired, don’t be upset. It’s a hobby, and there is nothing really tying you to it except yourself, and you will always come first. Don’t force yourself to write when you don’t have it in you.

Make it a therapeutic experience. Light some candles, make some tea, get some chocolate, lay in bed with your laptop and your favorite record playing. If every time you write is a treat, then you’ll want to do it more. 

Make writing your escape from the stresses of your life. Writing is a task in which you clear your mind and go somewhere else. It’s like reading, but you’re controlling what happens and when.

Getting real tired of this trigger happy fandom

Okay, I’ve seen a huge angry response to that one line from this week’s TJ chapter. It goes as follows:

“If fanfiction is Beau’s outlet, I’m not sure I want to know what issues he’s working through.”

I laughed at this line, because it was CLEARLY a jab at the CONTENTS of Beau’s writing, NOT ABOUT THE FACT THAT HE WAS WRITING.

Unfortunately, it seems that everyone in this fandom missed the point, and the writers for PB are being attacked.

I’m going to address a few issues here.

1) “Why doesn’t PB ever promote fanfiction?!??”

They can’t. Promoting non-canon events causes fans to wonder what counts as legitimate and what doesn’t. It also brings up legal issues like copyright and fair use. Please stop badgering the writers about this.

2) WHY WOULD THEY SAY SOMETHING SO MEAN?!

Let’s dissect the statement:

“IF fanfiction is Beau’s OUTLET, then I don’t want to know what kind of ISSUES he’s working through.”

This statement clearly refers to the way Beau uses fanfiction, not just fanfiction as a whole. He clearly has deep-seated psychological problems that cause him to write strange and violent scenarios. THIS STATEMENT WAS NOT THROWING SHADE AT FANFICTION AUTHORS.

3) “PB writers hate us because we’re COMPETITION!!1!”

Ah, yes, I’m sure that the PB workers being paid to write for you are intimidated by your 38-part Drake Walker smut fanfiction. Get real, guys. Why would the PB authors see us as “competition?” I’ve had a fanfiction written about a novella I published, and I just felt flattered.

In conclusion: STOP acting as though everything PB does is a personal attack on you, guys.

If you’re European, in a couple of weeks you will be denied any and all access to fandom contents on Tumblr and everywhere else on the internet. Here’s why.

On June, 20th the JURI of European Parliament approved of the articles 11 and 13 of the new Copyright Law. These articles are also known as the “Link Tax” and the “Censorship Machines” articles.

Articles 13 in particular forces every internet platform to filter all the contents we upload online, ending once and for all the fandom culture. Which means you won’t be able to upload any type of fandom works like fan arts, fan fictions, gif sets from your favourite films and series, edits, because it’s all copyrighted material. And you won’t also be able to share, enjoy or download other’s contents, because the use of links will be completely restricted.

But not everything’s lost yet. There’s another round of voting scheduled for the early days of July.

What you can do now to save our internet, is to share these informations with all of your family members and friends, and to ask to your MEP (the members of the European Parliament from your country) to vote NO at the next round, to vote against articles 11 and 13.
