Beyond the Boundary AU (Voltron: Legendary Defender)

An AU based on the anime, “Beyond the Boundary.” Inspired by art made by @summersnowleopard.

Keith Kogane is the sole survivor of a clan of Spirit World warriors with the power to employ their blood as weapons.

As such, Keith is tasked with hunting down and killing “youmu"—creatures said to be the manifestation of negative human emotions.

One day, while deep in thought on the school roof, Keith comes across Lance Charles McClain, a rare half-breed of youmu in human form. In a panicked state, he plunges his blood saber into him only to realize that he’s an immortal being.

From then on, the two form an impromptu friendship that revolves around Keith constantly trying to kill Lance, in an effort to boost his own wavering confidence as a Spirit World warrior.

Eventually, Lance also manages to convince him to join the Literary Club, which houses two other powerful Spirit World warriors, Tsuyoshi "Hunk” Garret and Katie “Pidge” Holt. As the group’s bond strengthens, however, so does the tenacity of the youmu around them.

Their misadventures will soon turn into a fight for survival as the inevitable release of the most powerful youmu, Beyond the Boundary, approaches.

(Headcanon that Keith did remember Lance but only as ‘that cute cargo pilot from Iverson’s class with the hair and the blue eyes’ and decided it was less embarrassing to just pretend he’d forgotten him entirely)

Fun fact: Tenochtitlan fell in 1521. From 1603 onwards, large numbers of honest-to-god fricking Japanese Samurai came to Mexico from Japan to work as guardsmen and mercenaries. 

Ergo, it would be 100% historically accurate to write a story starring a quartet consisting of the child or grandchild of Aztec Noblemen, an escaped African slave, a Spanish Jew fleeing the Inquisition (which was relaxed in Mexico in 1606, for a time) and a Katana-wielding Samurai in Colonial Mexico.

What she means: The fact that Hunk and Coran are the only two people out of team voltron that appreciate lance makes me sick to the stomach. Lance is smart, caring, and has amazing leadership skills. He is MUCH more than he thinks he is. How 5 of the 7 people out of Team Voltron push him to the side and don't listen to him even when he makes valid points because of his flirty and joking nature is ridiculous. Lance has saved people on the team and outside of it multiple times, and the fact that they don't take that into consideration or appreciate it is horrible and breaks my heart. In season 1 where he spots rover but can tell it's not the REAL rover is a big thing. When it turns into a bomb, his first instinct it to shield coran from it. Later in that season when Lance and Keith are on the balmera trying to stop the galra ships, Keith's first instinct is to rush in and attack while lance stops him and reminds him that the balmera is a living animal and that they can't attack.So lance comes up with a strategic plan to trap in the ships while not damaging the balmera and keeping their task and presence hidden. In season 2 when lance and hunk are in the underwater kingdom and the when the queen pleas to lance that she doesn't know what was going on and cares about her kingdom lance figures out that the food was mind swishing everyone but the baku got the queen first so that's why it was abe to control the rest of the kingdom. He figures this out in 0.05 seconds. In Jailbreak when lance gets the Yupper when sneaking out a galra approaches him and the first thing lance does is jump in front of the yupper and says "stay away from my friend" Lance deserves so much more from the characters in the show and how the creators treated him in season 2 was appalling. I hope he gets the screentime and respect he deserves without being dumbed down to comic relief in future seasons.

So, I know Suicide Squad won best makeup, but can we just take a moment to appreciate the makeup in Star Trek Beyond anyway? I mean, just look at these:

First off, Kalara. The color gradient and the ridges are just gorgeous.

For Natalia, who only even in this one scene, they had to create super-light prostheses, AND they used a new iridescent, color-shifting pigment that had never been used in makeup before.

Those lights on Krall? They’re not CG. They imbedded fiber optics into the prosthesis. 

And Jaylah. Wonderful Jaylah, they made a “bulletproof” makeup formula that won’t bleed at all and then APPLIED ALL OF THOSE LINES BY HAND.
