I've got a question for my fellow autistic and ADHD people. Has it ever happened to you that your brain doesn't recognize people anymore after they got a haircut? Like a friend of mine got a haircut and logically I know it's him, but my brain doesn't link the information it has stored about him and the emotions connected to those to him, so when I see him it feels like he is a complete stranger. Even tho I logically know that I know him. Has this happened to anyone else? And if so what can I do about it?

The moment when you feel the ability to speak or make facial expressions leaving you. It's a physical sensation and all I can think is "Ah, there it is."

It's the physical equivalent of watching a balloon float away.

"boringly abled" omg this is amazing

Things to start calling allistic people IMMEDIATELY:

people with allism

people suffering from allism

people trapped in allistic bodies

low-functioning allistics

the boringly abled

“he’s mostly normal, he’s just got a lick of the ‘lism”

Sherlock Holmes from Elementary being autistic, Sherlock from the BBC show being autistic, just Sherlock Holmes, in general, being autistic, Temperance Brennan from Bones being autistic, Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars being autistic,

Fellow neurodivergents of Tumblr, I have a question for you:

What are your favorite neurodivergent headcanons?

Mine are Jake Peralta from Brooklyn Nine-Nine having ADHD, Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables having ADHD, Shawn Spencer from Psych having ADHD, and I'm sure some others I can't think of atm and will add when my brain is working a bit better lol.

also the horrible sensation of your nails being filed (don't know if that's the correct word)

Autistic struggles when visiting the nail salon

(Add yours in the comments)

Pre-visit:

having to make a phone call to arrange an appointment

actually getting there on time

During visit:

having nothing in common with your servicer, so you just awkwardly spent the whole time in silence

your cuticles bleeding because they file too close to your sensitive skin

the burning sensation the first time your nails enter the UV lamp after gel application

not able to stim or fidget cause your hands are always occupied

Post visit:

that one nail that looks a little asymmetrical than the rest of the nails 🥲

THIS! Yes OMG! I have never felt so seen.

Shout out to autistics with fluctuating empathy!!!!

Why is no one talking about the fact that the scientist explicitly mentions what happens when you touch the bird and lick your finger afterwards? Like he has probably done this? He just went "Oh I've touched a poisonous bird. I wonder what happens when I lick the poison off my finger."?!

Dude has a death wish

In case there's anyone who hasn't come across them yet, there are some lovely terms that are just a bit more specific than "aspec", but broad enough to encompass a lot of experiences - both aspec microlabels and people who don't fit into the aspec -- allo binary.

Aromid: Strictly aromantic, and somewhere on the ace spectrum (or neither strictly ace nor strictly allosexual)

Acemid: Strictly asexual, and somewhere on the aro spectrum (or neither strictly aro nor strictly alloromantic)

Amid: Not strictly aro or ace, but somewhere on both spectrums (or not strictly aro, ace, allosexual, or alloromantic)

Of course, some people who fit these can call themselves aroace, but they may be useful or comforting for people who feel disconnected from the aroace label, those who have a complicated relationship with allosexuality/alloromanticism, or those who are neither a- nor allo-

Hey, does anyone know where you can buy good cosplays in Europe specifically Germany? (I mean online stores obviously) Because I don't want to order something that has to be shipped across continents for environmental reasons. And before people come at me telling me that I should make my cosplays myself... no. I don't have the skills or energy for that. I am specifically looking for a black widow cosplay

some of you may've heard about that fancy "bionic reading" typefont thats supposed to be easier for neurodivergent people to read (if you're unfamiliar, it bolds the first few letters of each word to make it easier to follow)

well guess what, its locked behind a $500 a month API to write in because fuck you!

introducing, Not Bionic Reading! it is literally just the bionic reading typefont but for free. god bless neocities

I’ve Seen A Lot Of Posts On My Dash Tonight About Users Who Are Threatening Suicide, With Other Tumblr

I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:

IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.

1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.

2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.

3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”

4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”

5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.

TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.

Reblog this to keep other users aware. Suicide isn’t a joke, and neither is someone’s life. If you didn’t know this, someone else may not, either. Pass it on.

WTf bahahah. I wrote this at 3am and thought it made perfect sense. Well...

If clubbing and partying was a video game I would be the perfect supporter. Hear me out, I am that asexual arospec friend who doesn’t drink but does Krav Maga and drinks way too much energy drinks. So I will never leave you alone for an attractive person and I will never be too drunk or too tired to help you. Got a creepy man annoying you? I can kick his ass. Drank too much? I’ll make sure you get home safely. The only thing that might be a little tricky is my noise sensitivity due to my autism but that can be fixed with noise cancelling headphones or earplugs. Also my social skills are not very good, so I won’t disturb your conversations. I will just lurk in a corner and wait until somebody needs my help. All in all I’m a good add on for a team of friends who want to go partying and need a supporter.

hey reblog if you believe that having a different romantic orientation than your sexual orientation is perfectly okay and valid. i want to see something.

Aight Fellas, time to rant about fanfiction

I find “why you two wouldn’t work out” and “their toxic traits” headcannons/ scenarios hilarious cuz they basically all boil down to “lack of both communication and compromise” but we still spend a solid paragraph reading why the breakup is entirely party b’s fault (bonus points for when party b communicates or at least makes an issue extremely obvious and y/n just expects to change or get fixed)

If this was an exploration of how y/n could be at fault for the breakup, I wouldn’t have a problem with this, but I have yet to see a scenario where it is acknowledged that y/n is in the wrong.

Like, you shouldn’t go dating someone because you want them to become someone else. If you can’t love and accept them for exactly who they are in the moment, then don’t date them. It’s ok to have standards, but partner’s boundaries should still be respected

If you wish to be with someone who is open and honest with their feelings\past all the time, don’t go after someone like Kaeya, Diluc, or Xiao. People don’t owe you their secrets. They don’t owe you vulnerablity. If it’s something you absolutely require in a relationship, Zhongli, Childe, and Albedo are all right there and have shown they are willing to give you that.

Please Note: I am just using characters as an example. I still mean for this take to be applied to irl scenarios. Characters just work for this since it’s someone we all know

You wish to date someone who works a lot and tells you that they will be busy a lot of the time? Why the fuck are you so surprised that they are busy most of the time? Communicate, set up a schedule, or go date someone else

Oh? Albedo is on a three week expedition to dragon spine? Almost like that’s a regular part of his job… Like a scheduled event… like something he can’t just drop on a whim… like something you already should have known about and accepted if you wanted to date him

Beidou regularly leaves on voyages and is gone for a year or two? She has always done this, why are you surprised? Go on the voyage with her or just don't date her.

You can't find time any time to spend with Ganyu? Why the fuck not? She has a very strict schedule that she always sticks to, just work around that

Mind you, it’s completely fine to just have different needs than your partner and for the relationship not to work out. You can just leave on amicable terms and stay friends

People are not toxic for having boundaries. People are not toxic for having lives. And if you want to try and force people to change those things for you, you’re the toxic one

Ah hello! I saw you responded to my post about alternatives to hugging and I wanted to say thanks and also that's an awesome alternative I love it! Very specific example, but watching the central Park concert that Simon and Garfunkel gave. It always makes me feel warm and incredibly happy. Also laying on the sofa with a blanket and watching documentaries.

Since I'm not very big on physical affection, I've been obsessed recently with finding things that feel like a hug, not physically but that happy, safe, warm feeling that people get from hugs. Like for instance, nighttime gives me that feeling, as well as sitting under trees, watching shows with my favorite characters/my favorite scenes, and of course curling up under floofy blankets.

I'd be extremely curious to hear what other people have as alternatives to hugs!

Tags

I really don't like people touching me. A friend recently asked me to hug her because she was having a bad day and I was like ok. Can't be that bad right. Well, I had a panic attack... Now I remember why I don't like touching people. The strange thing is, I really like hugs and affection in theory. (I'm asexual by the way). In my daydreams and in my head in general I love hugs and cuddles, but if anyone in reality would just touch my shoulder I'd feel extremely uncomfortable. Does that make sense? Anyone else feel this way?
