How have they already lost faith in humanity like give it a year or two jeez
a writing competition i was going to participate in again this year has announced that they now allow AI generated content to be submitted
their reasoning being that "we couldn't ban it even if we wanted to, every writer already uses it anyway"
"Every writer"?
come on
Gem was annoyed, F.O.M.O but above all, bored.
She had been stationed as part of Princess Glimmer's troop waaaaay out at the remote village of Thaymor. Now, she joined the Rebellion to help the innocent but also to fight but everyone knows that Queen Angela NEVER lets Glimmer fight any real battles because she's overprotective of her daughter. Which is absolutely perfect for Gem, a part of her normal troop. The only redeeming factors were- well, not dying- and the fact that like most days she was stationed with her bestie, Pearl.
"Sooo," Pearl began awkwardly, "starting conversations, huh?"
Gem giggled and decided to make it a bit, "Hmm, yeah, replies?"
Pearl joined in the laughter, "Yeah, yeah, counterpoint..."
"Hm, yeah, but... but... aghh, what's the word I'm looking for?" Gem said, voice broken by laughing that hard.
A few long moments later, the laughter died down and the girls were left sitting, smiling on a short stone wall.
"Do you think the Horde's actually gonna arrive?" Gem broke the silence with.
"Well, Angella made sure to station us waaaay out at the south east border, literally as far away from them as we could get." Pearl replied.
Gem sighed. "Well, this does mean that the people of Thaymor are-" but she was cut off.
Cut off by Pearl's hand on her shoulder, and her other hand pointing at the forest surrounding the village.
The forest hiding a whole fleet of Horde soldiers.
The walk outside was nothing special. Same old route, same old hallways, same old hostile nattering from the others.
Some of the squadrons did run into eachother as they got closer to an exit, though and Impulse got to say hi to his other friend, Skizz. Skizz was from squad Tango-D and his only other real friend besides Bdubs. Being the younger brother of Force Captain Scorpia, he was on his way to becoming Force Captain too, and soon by the looks of it.On the last stretch to the exit, Skizz gave 'Dippledop', as he always liked to call him, one of his famous bear hugs, Imp congratulated him again on being a soon-to-be Captain and they caught eachother up on the latest news. Nothing special.
When they eventually all made it outside, Impulse made sure to position himself next to Bdubs and Skizz as Sergeant Cubfan gave them the Thaymor briefing.
"The stronghold of Thaymor is incredibly fortified and extremely important to the Rebellion. If and when we take it, we will make a major dent in the enemy forces. The stronghold will be guarded by rebellion fighters led by Princess Glimmer, but from the information we've gathered on her she seems to be an early retreater."
"As for positions, we're going to need the Omega squadrons to drive the front, the Gammas to hold the flanks and the upper Tangos to create a perimeter and BEFORE ANYONE ASKS I'm aware that the Tango squads are cadet squadrons but it's not too risky of a role if all goes well and you cadets are showing some promise. Now off to your skiffs and let's kick some rebel..." he glanced at the cadet squads, "...butt."
Impulse and Bdubs had bot, laser, shielded for who drove the skiff; Bdubs won. Deep in the hostile Whispering Woods however, he gave the wheel over to a slightly less terrified Impy anyway. Cub had made the older soldiers circle the cadets, though, which made the whole 'flying something you barely know how to fly through a hostile forest that may or may not eat you alive' thing a bit easier.
Once they came out of the thick of the woods and approached Thaymor, they all got into their aforementioned positions.
"Hey Bdubs?" Impulse started.
"What, you scared or something? I'm not scared not me no," he said rather quickly.
"Does this look like a... civilian town to you?"
Bdubs paused for a moment. "Probably a disguise," he concluded, "you know how those rebellion guys are."
Impulse looked out at the endangered stronghold. Sergeant Cub (and Martyn, he supposed) had both said that Thaymor would be heavily fortified. It looked like a village.
A normal village.
Impulse nodded to Bdubs. It probably was some kind of malicious trick. They wouldn't attack otherwise, would they?
Deep in the Fright Zone, the Horde was prepared for the first big invasion since Eragrove. Today, today was the day of the attack on Thaymor.
Cadet squad Tango-B were in their quarters, gearing up. Impulse, like usual, kept his head down. It was hard being the only hybrid in the Horde.
"Alright, guys!" Martyn called as the unelected 'team leader', stepping onto a table. "We're taking Thaymor today, an important, heavily fortified rebel stronghold. If we take it, the Horde will finally be that step closer to crushing the Rebellion."
"Finally?" Bdubs parroted slyly, "You said we were chipping away at it last mission!"
Martin's gaze sharpened onto him. "Yeah?"
"See, your guy's bickering is WHY we got nothing done last mission," Kevin said dryly, stopping fiddling with his blaster. Before Martyn could interject, he continued "I honestly think Impy has the straightest head of the three of you."
Impulse jumped out of his daydream at the sound of his own name. "Fair," Bdubs said as Martyn spat "Impulse!?" Bdubs glared at him. "Yeah?"
Before Martyn could argue back, the signal light above the door flashed, ordering them outside for the briefing; all he could do was snarl.
Bdubs gave Impy a reassuring smile as they walked out.
He'd always have his back.
Chapter one's gonna be focusing on the Horde and so.
Characters. Info.
Impulse:
Allegiance: Horde. Species: Human/Reptilia hybrid. Too nice to be a Horde cadet. Good pals with BDubs.
Martin:
Allegiance: Horde. Species: Human. Doesn't wanna play by the rules. Bullies Impy sometimes.
Jevin:
Allegiance: Horde. Species: Nobody actually knows. He's chill.
BDubs:
Allegiance: Take a wild guess folks. Species: I checked the wiki and there's no plant guys in the horde. So, human then. Loyal to Impy.
I polled some of you in some communities and you generally said "Yeah why not" so I might put on here...
The PoE AU! (HermitLife/SheRa crossover au)
It stands for People of Etheria and I couldn't turn down the abbreviation. Basically the hermits and lifers are (mostly) normal etherians caught up in the Horde v Rebellion war, fighting alongside and against the show's characters.
It's soup group focus but, like my other hermitcraft/life series aus which I also may put here, there's loads more character povs like Bdubs, Zed and Gri+Jim. Not as much as my main one which I will briefly elude to.
More either soon or sometime!
